Hong Kong woman dies after undergoing liposuction at Taiwan clinic - ASEAN/East Asia
by danny mok thestar
A Hong Kong woman died in a Taiwan hospital on Tuesday after undergoing surgery in a local cosmetic clinic.
Local police said the 52-year-old woman, surnamed Ma, was having surgery at Just Make Plastic Clinic on Zhongxiao East Road in the eastern district of Taipei.
The surgery was reportedly a liposuction procedure and Ma suffered complications while anaesthesia was being administered. She was taken to Cathay General Hospital where she died.
Police told the South China Morning Post no one had been arrested in connection with the case as of Wednesday night. The doctor, surnamed Liu, the anaesthetist and two nurses involved are under investigation.
Liu and his colleagues were seen leaving a police station on Tuesday night. They did not respond to media enquiries. He was reportedly suspended from duty.
Body dysmorphia in Hong Kong – doctor fears disorder is rife, with low self-esteem causing plastic surgery addiction
The clinic’s founder and head Dr Pete Lee Jin-liang said in a statement on Wednesday the cause of the incident had yet to be ascertained.
Lee, who graduated from National Yang-Ming University’s medicine school, said the surgeon involved was qualified, with good experience of the surgeries of this kind. The surgical procedure also complied with his clinical professional knowledge.
“We deeply regret the incident,” he said, added that the clinic would provide assistance to investigators regardless of the cause.
Lee, a famed plastic surgeon who is also the son-in-law of Taiwan TV programme host Hu Gua, founded the clinic in 2008 and it is frequented by local entertainers.

Police in Taipei said Ma’s family would go to Taiwan to handle related matters.
The anaesthetist involved in the woman’s liposuction was also involved in previous medical incidents.
In 2004, he received a five-month jail term from a court for his involvement in a liposuction after which a woman died. He later paid a penalty in exchange for the prison term.
In the same year, the family of a four-year-old boy sued him after the child died during a surgery. The anaesthetist was later acquitted.

Science Examines People Who Claim Not To Eat
collective-evolution.com
Breathariansim refers to the practice of sustaining oneself without food. This concept is not new; in fact, for thousands of years, various cultures around the world have written of this ability. In the third book of the Yoga Sutras, for example, approximately 25 Siddhis are listed as having extraordinary abilities. This is a common theme throughout Buddhism, and various other spiritual traditions as well. Clairvoyance and psychokinesis are just some of the special traits attributed to the Siddhis, as is the liberation from hunger and thirst.
Though modern day science has seen evidence of extended human capacities like telepathy, remote viewing, and pre-cognition, very little work has gone into examining breatharianism. Some brilliant minds do believe it’s possible, however, including Nikola Tesla. In 1901, he made the following argument:
My idea is that the development of life must lead to forms of existence that will be possible without nourishment and which will not be shackled by consequent limitations. Why should a living being not be able to obtain all the energy it needs for the performance of its life functions from the environment, instead of through consumption of food, and transforming, by a complicated process, the energy of chemical combinations into life-sustaining energy?
Liberation from food and hunger does indeed sound unrealistic and, from what we know of modern day biology, impossible. But the history of science has shown us many times that the impossible can become the possible in an instant. A great example of this is the recent discovery that humans can actually influence their autonomic nervous system using the power of the mind.
Let’s take a look at what happened when people who claimed that they don’t eat were examined by science.
Breatharianism
The Qigong practice of Bigu, and other -Qigong practices (which include the liberation from food) examined by science have yielded some extraordinary results. A study published in the American Journal of Chinese Medicine, as seen in the the US National Library of Medicine, demonstrated that a woman with special abilities was and is able to accelerate the germination of specific seeds for the purposes of developing a more robust seed stock. This is one example of many; you can find the study and read more about it here.
The Catholic Charism of India also involves the claim of living well without eating food. Dean Radin, Chief Scientist at the Institute of Noetic Sciences, explains the concept in his book Supernormal: Science, Yoga, and the Evidence for Extraordinary Psychic Abilities:
The implication is that the human body can transmute ambient energy into nutrients, and through the practice of cultivating this ability one can live comfortably for as long as one wishes without food, and possibly without drinking water. This is described as a siddhi in the Yoga Sutras as Pada 111.30: liberation from hunger and thirst.
Q:

food?
Is that good not to eat to keep good
health?

How to keep energize?

Along With the Gods: The Two Worlds
After dying unexpectedly, firefighter
Ja-hong is taken to the afterlife by three guardians, where only after passing
seven trials and proving he lived a noble life will he be able to reincarnate.
Based on the wildly popular webcomic, ALONG WITH THE GODS: THE TWO WORLDS is a
star-studded, action-packed fantasy epic about life, death, rebirth, and the
unseen forces that guide us through all.
In the extravagantly conceived Korean
spiritual adventure "Along With the Gods: The Two Worlds," dying only
starts the journey. Firefighter Ja-hong (Cha Tae-hyun) sacrifices himself to
save a young girl, only to find he's been virtuous enough to receive a rare
shot at reincarnation.
With the help of three appointed defenders
— a stoic lawyer (Ha Jung-woo), an impertinent security expert (Ju Ji-hoon) and
a kind-hearted assistant (Kim Hyang-gi) — Ja-hong must pass seven Afterlife
trials about his life on Earth. The topics cover everything from injustice and
violence to deceit and "filial impiety."
Do you believe in Reincarnation
I do believe in eternal life, but not
necessarily reincarnation here on Earth. I'm Christian so I see Heaven as being
the ultimate place you end up at for the rest of eternity. Although the
evidence that I've heard in support of reincarnation is mostly people who claim
to actually remember their past life. Kinda spooky to remember something like
that. My mother believes in reincarnation but she believes that everytime we
are reborn, we are a new species and we work our way up to the final species
and that is Humans. So she believes that we've all been every other species
already. She's a hypnosis, and she revealed one client to have remember a past
life where they were a tree. But as for me, I'm Christian and so I don't really
believe it personally but I know their are other religions that do.
I know things that I didn't know before
looking things up
I remember being a young boy living in a
village, I can even draw the street I lived on and a bridge over the river
splitting the village in two, I have had many flash back's to ww2 I know
bombing sites and my death in a aircraft that exploded, something I can check
but some I cant Like looking into the boarded up site of a bombed out buildings
that I didn't know had been bombed, Standing out side the front of my home with
my sisters and parents as queen Victoria's coach came by ,so I truly believe in
reincarnation
Q:

So are willing sacrificed your life to save
someone?
What do you think of “afterlife trials”?
Do you believe that the idea of afterlife?

Reasons Why People Who Spend Money On
Experiences Are Happier
Mike Oppland lifehack.org
“Be brave. Take risks. Nothing can substitute experience.”
—Paulo Coelho
1. Experiences help define your purpose and
passions.
Failure to spend money on experiences means
failure to discover your purpose and passions. Your purpose and your passions
should serve as your compass through life. They should guide you and influence
your daily activities.
Your experiences don’t need to be expensive
or grandiose, and neither do your purposes and passions. However, you should
align experiences in your life that are in tune with them. If you enjoy sports,
for example, and perhaps you believe your purpose in life is sports-centric,
then it makes sense for you to spend money on attending sporting events. Learn
as much you can about the sports industry if you are certain it is your
calling.
2. Experiences are unforgettable and joyful
memories.
For many people the optimal reason for
investing in experiences is that they unforgettable and joyous occasions. These
memories can be especially useful if you are going through a rough time. It is
never ideal to disassociate yourself completely from the present, but having
pleasant and fond memories to reminisce on can be quite therapeutic. Perhaps
they will serve as a reminder that things aren’t as terrible as they seem.
Happiness is correlated with your ability
to relish your moment to moment experiences. Why not make these experiences
ones that are beyond minute and mundane? Invest in experiences that you will
treasure, not only in the present moment, but for the rest of your life.
3. Experiences are exciting and
challenging.
Your experiences will inspire you, and at
times, call you to take action. If they didn’t then you probably wouldn’t
invest too much time or energy into them. Climbing Mount Everest is an
experience you probably would never forget because of the daunting task you are
forced to overcome. The mental and physical challenge of ascending the slope is
both inspiring to yourself and others, and challenging at the same time.
Accepting the challenge of learning a new instrument or language offers a
mental challenge that is gratifying for anyone who sticks with it.
Q:
Reasons why people who spend money on
experiences are happier?
What were the experiences made you happier?
What you are spending money on usually?
How to discover your purpose and passions?
Why experiences are unforgettable and
joyful memories?
How to investing yourself?

浪漫愛情故事存在嗎?
Are Romantic Movies Really Ideal Love Stories? Features By Kevin Carr
Everyone enjoys a good love story, don’t they?
They may not be the highest-grossing movies of all time (if James Cameron isn’t directing, that is), but romantic movies can elicit some strong emotional responses when done right. Watching passion overcome adversity, seeing two people connect on a profound level, witnessing a giant ship sinking in icy waters. The heartstrings tremble, they also seem to set up impossible romantic ideals for us mere mortals to live up to.
With the potential relationship pitfalls that come from movie expectations, I got to thinking… are romantic movies really the best love stories?
The Answer: Not at all. Most are actually pretty messed up.
Romantic dramas are a different story. If you want to keep a relationship going, don’t plan your relationship like one of these movies. The consequences can be quite dire.
It’s not surprising to learn that cheating is a bad thing for relationships. Unfortunately, it also appears to be standard human behavior. More than half of men and women admit to being unfaithful in at least one relationship. When infidelity happens in a marriage, it results in divorce about one-third of the time. So while these figures show that people can be forgiving, cheating happens. A lot. However, they still happen in love stories more than in real life.
Most of the time, the lovers don’t end up together
Once again referring to the top 20 grossing romance dramas, the lovers don’t even end up together by the end of the film. The couples figuratively ride off into the sunset in only six of these movies (Pearl Harbor, Jerry Maguire, The Vow, Indecent Proposal, Dear John, and Safe Haven). In An Officer and a Gentleman, the characters literally walk off into the sunset, which must count for something.
The Notebook is a slightly different story, considering the lovers don’t actually end up together until after the story is told. And even then, she can’t remember a damn thing about him in the end, anyway. How’s that for irony? Nicholas Sparks, you devil!
That leaves 12 of these movies – amounting to 60% – in which the lovers’ time together is limited in some way. And just because this list is for films made since 1980 doesn’t mean the trend started there. Some of the best-known historical romances feature the main characters going their separate ways. From Gone with the Wind in which Rhett Butler doesn’t give a damn to Casablanca (which again features some infidelity) in which Ilsa (Ingrid Bergman) leaves Rick (Humphrey Bogart) and Renault (Claude Rains) to live happily ever after together.
In fact, romantic dramas don’t just make a point to split characters up. They keep them apart through much of the movie, as you’ll see in the wildly popular Doctor Zhivago, as well as the more recent Top 20 films like Cold Mountain and Legends of the Fall.

FILE - In this Oct. 4, 2016, file photo, Kim Jong-hyun, a member of South Korean K-pop group SHINee, poses for the media before a showcase for the group's album "1 of 1" in Seoul, South Korea. Kim Jong-hyun, better known by the stage name Jonghyun, was found unconscious at a residence hotel in Seoul and was pronounced dead later at a nearby hospital, Seoul police said Monday Dec. 18, 2017.
The lead singer of popular South Korean boy band SHINee died on Monday, police said, in a possible suicide.
Kim Jong-hyun, better known by the stage name Jonghyun, was found unconscious at a residence hotel in Seoul and was later pronounced dead at a nearby hospital, Seoul police said.
Police said Kim's sister told them that the singer sent her text messages such as "Final farewell" and "I've had difficulties" before his death.
Police said they have not yet determined whether he killed himself.
Yonhap news agency said authorities found burned coal briquettes, which produce carbon monoxide, in a frying pan in Kim's hotel room.
Kim debuted in 2008 as the main singer of SHINee, and cultivated a career as both a group member and a solo singer-song writer. His last public appearance was at a solo concert titled "Inspired" on Dec. 9-10 in Seoul, and he was scheduled to hold concerts with SHINee members in Tokyo and Osaka in February, Yonhap said.
South Korea has one of the highest suicide rates among developed countries. A string of high-profile figures, including a former president and business executives, have killed themselves in recent years.

Negative Effects Of a Sedentary Lifestyle menshealth.com
Feeling down? Blame your chair: After surveying more than 3,300 government employees, Australian researchers found that men who sat for more than 6 hours a day at work were 90 percent more likely to feel moderate psychological distress—like feeling nervous, restless, hopeless, or even tired—than men who sat for less than 3 hours a day.
What’s more, other types of sedentary behavior—like watching TV or playing electronic games—can increase your risk for anxiety, according to a recent meta-analysis of nine studies published in BMC Public Health. That might be because if you’re spending your time on those pastimes, you’re probably not fitting in enough physical activity, the researchers say. (Here are 7 things that destroy your mood.)
And that’s important, since exercise has mood-boosting benefits. When you work up a sweat, your body produces feel-good hormones called endorphins, according to the Mayo Clinic. What’s more, recent research indicates that cardio can boost your mood just as effectively as prescribed antidepressants.
Too busy to walk during your lunch break? Check out this quick workout you can do right at your desk. Your body and mind will thank you.
cancer risk grows
A German meta-analysis of 43 different studies including more than 4 million people found that sedentary behavior significantly increases your risk for several types of cancer.
People who logged the most sitting time experienced a 24 percent higher risk of developing colon cancer, a 32 percent higher risk of endometrial cancer, and a 21 percent higher risk of lung cancer.
Plus, the risks about doubled for people who usually spent their butt time parked in front of the TV, possibly because you tend to nosh on sweetened beverages and junk foods when you’re glued to the screen, the researchers say.
And that paves the way for obesity. Large studies have consistently shown that higher levels of body fat can spike your cancer risk. That’s because chronic local inflammation can attack your body’s cells, leading to cancer-causing DNA damage over time, according to the National Cancer Institute. Plus, a surplus of fat cells eventually produce hormones that lead to cell proliferation, a process that causes your cells to grow and divide rapidly. (Here are 10 things you can do to prevent cancer.)
Your brain health suffers when you lounge for too long: Older adults who are sedentary may be just as likely to develop dementia as people who are genetically predisposed to the condition, new research published in the Journal of Alzheimer’s Disease found.
In a study of more than 1,600 adults 65 and older, the researchers found that people with a gene strongly associated with dementia were nearly twice as likely to develop it as people without the gene. But when they looked at people who didn’t exercise regularly, they found that their odds of developing dementia were similar.

How Impulsive Are You? | Psychology Today
Impulsivity is a basic, yet fascinating concept in psychology. It’s associated with many traits, ranging from sensation-seeking to neuroticism, and it affects a number of behaviors of interest to psychologists, from over-eating to under-saving. Many important choices you've made may have been affected by your level of impulsivity.
Psychologist Ernest Barratt (link is external) has developed a popular measure of impulsivity that differentiates between planning impulsivity (being more interested in the present than the future); attentional impulsivity (being restless in lectures or having extraneous thoughts when thinking); and motor impulsivity (doing things without thinking).
Impulse buying—such as all those unnecessary purchases people made to take advantage of Black Friday discounts—is captured mainly by the latter dimension. People who tend to make impulse purchases may or may not suffer from more general impulsivity traits. Scott Dickman (link is external) devised a widely-used instrument to measure dysfunctional impulsivity, provided below for you to complete.
For each of the following statements, please indicate whether it is generally TRUE or FALSE.
I will often say whatever comes into my head without thinking first.
I enjoy working out problems slowly and carefully.
I frequently make appointments without thinking about whether I will be able to keep them.
I frequently buy things without thinking about whether or not I can really afford them.
I often make up my mind without taking the time to consider the situation from all angles.
Often, I don't spend enough time thinking over a situation before I act.
I often get into trouble because I don't think before I act.
Many times the plans I make don't work out because I haven't gone over them carefully enough in advance.
I rarely get involved in projects without first considering the potential problems.
Before making any important decision, I carefully weigh the pros and cons.
I am good at careful reasoning.
I often say and do things without considering the consequences.
Q:

Why Group Exercise Is So Good For Your
Health health.com
Exercise is great for mental health;
Research has shown that it can lower stress, improve mood and even decrease
symptoms of depression and anxiety. But new research finds that a group
exercise class may be even better for your mental wellbeing than a solo sweat
session.
A small study published in the Journal of
the American Osteopathic Association found that people who took group exercise
classes reported less stress and more physical, emotional and mental health
benefits than those who exercised alone or did not hit the gym at all,
suggesting that a social atmosphere may compound the already numerous benefits
of physical activity.
At the University of New England College of
Osteopathic Medicine, 69 people in their first or second year of medical
school—typically a very stressful time—were recruited for the study. One group
of students did at least one 30-minute core training class together each week;
another exercised alone or with one or two other people at least twice a week;
and a third didn't engage in any physical activity beyond walking or biking for
transportation. Students were allowed to choose their own group.
The students took surveys about their
stress levels every four weeks and periodically filled out additional surveys
about their physical, emotional and mental wellbeing. After 12 weeks, the
researchers determined that those taking the group core training class were
seeing the best results.
The study has some limitations. It's
possible that people who chose the core training group already knew they liked
group exercise, and thus saw benefits. But the research suggests that the
virtues of fitness classes go far beyond working up a sweat. In addition to a
community vibe, the researchers note that the music and choreography used in
group classes may boost mood.
All the more reason to hit that barre
exercise class after work.

It's World Kindness Day! Introduced in 1998, it is a celebration of kindness in all its forms. How can you contribute? "Make a vegetable patch and grow your own produce," says the Kindness Day UK website. "Say good morning to everyone on your way into work, bring in treats for your colleagues, or leave a pile of pennies by a fountain for passers by to make a wish."
Kindness can sometimes feel lacking in Britain, particularly in the capital, and no doubt many reading the above suggestions will be doing so with smirking cynicism. But the UK is actually one of the world's most generous countries, according to Charities Aid Foundation's 2017 World Giving Index.
Billed as "the world's leading study of generosity", the index rates 140 countries in three categories: helping a stranger, donating money, and volunteering time. The UK's overall rating of 50 is good enough for 11th place.
"The high scores are likely to be a result of Theravada Buddhism practiced by a large proportion of the population in Myanmar, whereby followers donate to support those living a monastic lifestyle – a practice known as Sangha Dana," the report states.
Ireland made the top 10, as did New Zealand, the US and Canada, but scores fell in every Western country compared with 2016. An average of 1,000 people were questioned in each country to produce the report.
