The Science Of Why You Should Spend Your Money On Experiences, Not Things    fastcoexist.com

Most people are in the pursuit of happiness. There are economists who think happiness is the best indicator of the health of a society. We know that money can make you happier, though after your basic needs are met, it doesn't make you that much happier. But one of the biggest questions is how to allocate our money, which is (for most of us) a limited resource.

There's a very logical assumption that most people make when spending their money: that because a physical object will last longer, it will make us happier for a longer time than a one-off experience like a concert or vacation. According to recent research, it turns out that assumption is completely wrong.

"One of the enemies of happiness is adaptation," says Dr. Thomas Gilovich, a psychology professor at Cornell University who has been studying the question of money and happiness for over two decades. "We buy things to make us happy, and we succeed. But only for a while. New things are exciting to us at first, but then we adapt to them."

So rather than buying the latest iPhone or a new BMW, Gilovich suggests you'll get more happiness spending money on experiences like going to art exhibits, doing outdoor activities, learning a new skill, or traveling.

Gilovich's findings are the synthesis of psychological studies conducted by him and others into the Easterlin paradox, which found that money buys happiness, but only up to a point. How adaptation affects happiness, for instance, was measured in a study that asked people to self-report their happiness with major material and experiential purchases. Initially, their happiness with those purchases was ranked about the same. But over time, people's satisfaction with the things they bought went down, whereas their satisfaction with experiences they spent money on went up.

It's counterintuitive that something like a physical object that you can keep for a long time doesn't keep you as happy as long as a once-and-done experience does. Ironically, the fact that a material thing is ever present works against it, making it easier to adapt to. It fades into the background and becomes part of the new normal. But while the happiness from material purchases diminishes over time, experiences become an ingrained part of our identity.

K-Pop Korean Girl Groups You Should Know   Seohyun, Tiffany,

What Is K-Pop?
K-Pop is a genre of South Korean pop music. Hang on. I know what you're thinking: I saw that Gangnam Style video and it was pretty funny, but I wouldn't want to listen to that stuff all the time. Well, for better or worse (depending on how much of a Psy fan you are) a lot of Korean pop music is nothing like Gangnam Style. In fact, the look and sound of K-Pop is heavily influenced by American pop music, so many Korean girl groups are actually much more likely to sound similar to artists like Lady Gaga, Nicki Minaj, and Rihanna.

What Are K-Pop Idols and Idol Groups?
Most K-Pop artists are trained performers rather than discovered musicians. They are usually recruited from talent scouting competitions and awarded long-term contracts that include years of training in music, dance, and choreography. Many start training for talent contests on their own when they are as young as 9 or 10 years old. Therefore, it is more accurate to consider K-pop idols professional entertainers and media personalities rather than simply musicians.

Jewelry
Jewelry was formed in 2001 by Star Empire Entertainment company and is currently the longest-running Korean girl group ever. It consists of four members: Eunjung, Baby J, Ye-won, and Semi. To date, Jewelry has 8 studio albums as well as tons of singles.

After School
Formed by the Pledis Entertainment music label in 2009, After School was the first K-Pop band to introduce the graduation system for fluctuating band members. Originally, it had 5 members, but several original members have "graduated" and new members have been admitted. Currently After School has 8 members: Jungah, Jooyeon, Uee, Raina, Nana, Lizzy, E-Young and Kaeun. After school has released 2 studio albums (one Korean and one Japanese) and 21 music videos to date as well as a number of singles, collaborations, soundtrack appearances, etc.

F(x)
F(x) is a girl group formed by the SM Entertainment record label in 2009. It consists of 5 members: Victoria, Amber, Luna, Sulli, and Krystal. They have produced one full studio album and 11 music videos to date, as well as several EPs and Single albums.

Sistar
Sistar was formed in 2010 by the Starship Entertainment record label. The group consists of 4 members: Hyorin, Bora, Soyou, and Dasom. To date, they have produced one studio album and 13 music videos as well as many single albums and EPs.

AOA‘s “Like A Cat” MV has gained 1 million views within 24 hours of it being released. Apparently, the comeback this time seems a lot more promising than their previous no-win “Short Hair”. A lot of people will still get ticked off by this MV, however, and it  deserves criticism for all the objectification of women throughout the video.
Q:
Why K-Pop Korean Girl Groups so popular?
Do you like dancing? Do you like K-Pop stars?
What do you think about Korean pop cultures?
What Are the Idol Groups you like most?
Why are Korean girls beautiful?
Do K pop undergo Plastic Surgery?
