真朋友
Things Real Friends Do Differently

They face problems together. – A person who truly knows and loves you – a real friend – is someone who sees the pain in your eyes while everyone else still believes the smile on your face.  Don’t look for someone who will solve all your problems; look for someone who will face them with you.
They give what they can because they truly care. – One of the biggest challenges in relationships comes from the fact that many of us enter a relationship in order to get something.  We try to find someone who’s going to make us feel good.  In reality, the only way a relationship will last, and give us joy in the long-term, is if we see our relationship as a place we go to give, and not just a place we go to take.  Yes, of course it is okay to take something from a relationship too.  But both sides should be giving.  It can only be a ‘give and take’ if BOTH SIDES are GIVING.  That’s the key.
They are genuine, and expect genuineness. – As Leo F. Buscaglia once said, “Never idealize others.  They will never live up to your expectations.  Don’t over-analyze your relationships.  Stop playing games.  A growing relationship can only be nurtured by genuineness.”  Don’t play games with people’s heads and hearts.  Remember, love and friendship don’t hurt.  Lying, cheating and screwing with people’s feelings and emotions hurts.  Always be open, honest, and genuine.  (Read The Mastery of Love.)
They believe in each other. – Simply believing in another person, and showing it in your words and deeds, can make a huge difference in their life.  Studies of people who grew up in dysfunctional homes but who grew up to be happy and successful show that the one thing they had in common was someone who believed in them.  Do this for those you care about.  Support their dreams and passions and hobbies.  Participate with them.  Cheer for them.  Be nothing but encouraging.  Whether they actually accomplish these dreams or not, your belief is of infinite importance to them.
They listen, and they hear every word. – Giving a person a voice, and showing them that their words matter, will have a long-lasting impact on them.  Less advice is often the best advice.  People don’t need lots of advice, they need a listening ear and some positive reinforcement.  What they want to know is often already somewhere inside of them.  They just need time to think, be and breathe, and continue to explore the undirected journeys that will eventually help them find their direction.
They keep their promises. – Your word means everything.  If you say you’re going to do something, DO IT!  If you say you’re going to be somewhere, BE THERE!  If you say you feel something, MEAN IT!  If you can’t, won’t, and don’t, then DON’T LIE.  Real friends keep promises and tell the truth upfront.  (marcandangel.com)

Taipei City Mayor: low-pay problem a national shame
(Taiwan News, Staff Writer)

A week ago, the Taipei City Government (TCG) has announced a plan to raise the pay for its temporary workers. The Mayor Hao Lung-bin defended his decision Monday and extended his support to the city's labor bureau official Chen Yeh-hsin in a media interview. Chen commented earlier that the wage stagnation and low income problem is "the shame of the nation."

In the media interview, Hao sided with Chen and called for policy review of current minimum wage by the state-level policy makers. He said wage hike can effectively boost the national economy. Hao explained that the chronic low-wage problem will impede domestic economic growth due to poor purchasing power in line with a number of Nobel Prize laureates' views, which consider the key to economy growth lies in the lift in minimum wage. Hao took example of the U.S. whose president has made a similar bid. Hao added that the methods of stimulating economy should not be limited to just pushing for establishing free trade zones.

Hao announced last week that the hourly rate for temporary workers will be raised to NT$133 (US$4.39) and the minimum monthly wage to NT$22,639. Taichung City has announced to follow the move. Evaluations are also being made in the rest of the cities or counties, according to media reports. Twenty seven companies reportedly have agreed to give their workers a raise.

Hao remarked that the business environment and profit have been turning better from last year, and he encouraged business owners to share the gains with employees to help them improve their living standards.

Taiwan’s labor policies have come under fire from the United States State Department’s latest human rights report for 2013 for low wages, overtime and abuses of foreign laborers’ rights. The US document mentioned the low wages for Taiwanese workers, including the fact that the average wage fell back to levels not seen since 15 years ago. The average monthly wage stood at NT$44,739 in 2013.

壓力使你變胖

5 Ways stress maybe making you fat

Written by IHU staff writter

Have you been trying to lose weight, but you just can’t seem to make the scale budge, no matter how much you exercise or control what you eat? If you’ve been burning the midnight oil every night, that could have something to do with it. Chronic stress – the kind we get from worrying over family obligations or the constant work we have to do in the ever limited amount of time that we have – can undermine our weight loss efforts and impact our health in a number of ways.

Here’s how chronic stress may even be making you fat:

1) Slows Your Metabolism

Your metabolism is essentially a cocktail of various hormones in your body. When all the hormones are there in the right combinations, your organs and your bodily processes – like digestion and sugar regulation – work the way they need to for optimal health.

Chronic stress can throw your hormones out of balance, slowing your metabolism. Adrenaline and cortisol flood your body during periods of stress, and they can slow your body’s ability to burn calories, fats and sugar.

2) Messes with Hunger Cues

Hormones are also responsible for your hunger cues. Ghrelin is the hormone responsible for making you feel hunger, and leptin is the hormone that makes you feel full. When you are under a state of stress, your body suppresses leptin levels and increases ghrelin levels, making you want to eat more but not feeling sated. You end up taking in far more calories than your body needs, putting on fat.

 3) Increases Cravings

5 Ways stress maybe making you fat

Chronic stress doesn’t just make you feel hungry, it also makes you want to eat foods that are high in fat and sugar. Stress triggers intense cravings, which can cause you to eat more unhealthy junk foods that will make you gain fat.

Once you eat these foods, you will also get a rush of feel-good hormones, which will pacify your stress, creating a response that you will try to replicate when you are feeling stressed again later. It creates a cycle that can be hard to break.

4) Wrecks Blood Sugar Levels

Insulin is the hormone that regulates your blood sugar. When you are under chronic stress, your body is not able to regulate insulin, as well, which can cause a number of problems. Insulin sensitivity can lead to more storage of fat in the body. It can also create swings in blood sugar, which causes you to eat more junk foods that are high in calories and fat. All of this can make it hard for you to lose weight, and may actually make you gain weight instead.

5) Encourages Abdominal Fat

High levels of cortisol released during chronic stress can have a number of harmful side effects. One nasty byproduct that impacts your weight is the storage of fat around the abdomen. Even if you are able to lose weight, high cortisol levels can cause fat to cling to your abdominal area, creating an unsightly pooch or love handles.

If you have been trying to lose weight for some time without success, it may be time to look beyond your diet and exercise program. Chronic stress can undermine your weight loss goals and may even be contributing to your weight gain. Look for ways to reduce or eliminate stress in your life and you may be surprised to find that the pounds just melt off.

Most firms meeting legal requirements on gender equality: poll

(CNA)
Taipei, March 6 (CNA) Since a law to protect gender equality in the workplace was implemented in 2002, companies have taken various measures to promote equality of the sexes, according to survey results released Thursday by the Ministry of Labor.

Over 90 percent of the employees polled said they have not been unfairly treated in the workplace because of their gender, with only 5.2 percent of female workers saying they are not treated equally in terms of salary hikes, and only 1.9 percent of male workers saying they are not equally treated in terms of their job assignments.
