Firm sells waste oil as cooking oil  China Post

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- The Southern Taiwan Investigation Center of the Criminal Investigation Bureau (CIB) busted an illegal oil supplier yesterday, saying that the main suspect, surnamed Kuo, recycled cooking oil and sold it to oil manufacturers as a fresh product. This resulted in at least 200 tons of waste oil entering the food market.

According to investigators, 200 tons of polluted oil may have already been sold to Chung Guann Co. Ltd. (強冠公司), a well-known local cooking oil manufacturer.

The company denied buying waste oil intentionally, saying that it knew nothing about the poor quality of the oil it bought. However, the company said that it did buy 200 tons of oil from another supplier owned by Kuo. Chung Guann further stated that from this purchase the company produced 51,000 barrels of lard oil. Currently, there are only 3,000 barrels left in their inventory. The company has started to retrieve the other 48,000 barrels of oil from its customers.

In addition, the company said it followed the investigators' order to start a probe into the matter on Sept. 1. Not until Sept. 2 was it aware that Kuo had sold waste oil. The company has already started to reverse the damage with its customers.

Rather than selling these products to clients directly, Chung Guann sold its products to other distributors that supply restaurants and shops. Therefore, the company has to track the waste oil through its distributors.

The president of Chung Guann also apologized to the public yesterday. He emphasized that the company did not intentionally buy waste oil, and the price that Kuo offered was not cheaper than other oil suppliers. However, he regrets that the company caused a food security problem due to its carelessness.

It was discovered yesterday that one of the biggest food manufacturers, Wei Chuan Corp. (味全公司), has used the polluted oil. The company actively reported that 12 of Wei Chuan's products may have used oil from Chung Guann and will be removed from the market soon.

10 Most Dangerous Jobs! (the10mostknown.com)
9- Bodyguards
Although a security guard for establishments is already a dangerous job for anyone, how much more if you are guarding a very important person like a wealthy businessman, a very famous celebrity, or even the President? These bodyguards literally serve as human shield for their clients! Usually, they protect politically powerful people and, with that amount of fame, it is very likely that they will encounter assault, assassination, threats, kidnapping, and other dangerous encounters.

8- Stuntmen
In order for action movies to become believable, their stunts need to be actually done as much as possible. However, famous celebrities are not expected to do their own stunts (especially not with that beautiful face!). So, most of the time, movie producers hire stuntmen to do the same for their celebrity counterparts. These stunts are very dangerous and can likely cause fractured bones, burns, and other fatal consequences.

6- Linemen
Being hired as a lineman is a very dangerous job because there is a high chance of being electrocuted if not falling from a great height. As per 100,000 linemen, the fatality rate in this line of work is approximately 33 percent.

3- Firefighter
Fighting against waves of flames, being a firefighter or a fireman is one of the deadliest jobs in the world. Although these men are trained extensively, it is inevitable that they suffer fatal consequences during rescue operations, especially when they are trained an expected to save as many lives as possible. Regardless whether it is a fire savaging a residential property or a huge forest fire, these men put their lives second to the people they are helping. Hence, they are likely to get burned severely, suffer physical injuries, inhale hazardous chemicals and excessive smoke, or get trapped inside burning or collapsing buildings.

2- Fishermen
If you think that being a fisherman is an easy job, you are wrong! The waters are not as calm as what they look like at the beach or coastline. Out in the open sea, fishermen are ravaged by gigantic waves which can swallow them in an instant or they can get stuck in the middle of nowhere due to malfunctioning gears.

1- Military or Police

The most dangerous job in the world is being a military or police. For 24 hours a day and seven days a week, they are expected to keep their heads up for possible casualties or to maintain the peace and order in their community. Their work does not stop even though they take off their uniform and badges. Especially to the military who are deployed to conflicted areas, they have to remain vigilant in their every move. These people sacrifice their whole life for the defense of their country that they have sworn to.
