Phone sex scams on the rise taipeitimes
A fraud ring was broken up by police in Kaohsiung, who say that more than 100 men fell prey to the scam, some of which paid out more than NT$1m
More than 100 Taiwanese men have recently fallen victim to scams in which they give money to women who seduce them over the phone, police said.
The cases came to light after Kaohisung police and the Criminal Investigation Bureau last week arrested nine alleged members of a phone fraud ring, allegedly operated by a criminal syndicate headed by a man surnamed Liu (劉).
The syndicate was based in China, but has couriers to pick up money and female go-betweens in Taiwan, police said.
In many of the cases, victims believed a tragic story told to them by a woman on the phone, such as that they were destitute or had to pay big medical bills for sick family members, police said.
Once the victim has fallen for the story, they do what they can to help out their “newfound love,” including putting their houses up for collateral or taking out bank loans, the police added. However, the men end up with nothing but an empty bank account and, for many, a broken heart.
“Taiwanese men are easy prey for these phone sex scams,” a policeman said, shaking his head.
According to police reports, more than 100 people were taken advantage of in the phone sex scam, of which most were men over the age of 50, divorced, widowed, or who had little experience with relationships.
The police said the increasing number of men falling for such scams are desperately looking for love and are easily exploited by a charming woman who calls them several times a day and showers them with affection. Victims think they have found their “dream girl,” and many were willing to do everything for the object of their desire, police said.

Yes because...
Look at medical advancements. Chemotherapy can help cure cancer! Then look at how much technology is saving babies all over the world. Premature babies ever since technology advancements have been surviving more and more. If that isnt enough then look at more of surgical teams, they are more precise and much safer than before when it was just slice and dice. Its easy to debate that technology is bad when your life hasnt been dependant on it. Giving a child or a grown man a new chance at life makes it all worth it. And as far as obesity that isnt the medicals fault or even remotely close to it, its peoples choices to choose to eat all that fatty foods. New diseases appeared before medical technology, and they evolve just as quick as we do to stop them, the truth is yes there are super bugs from over use of the same medicine but stopping using the medical technology wont help us againest them.

Chemo MIGHT cure cancer! While technology has come a long way in curing disease and helping bind injuries it has also had negative consequences. Our use of antibiotics are leading to superbugs that are resistant and more deadly while our way of life is creating new medical problems from obesity to new strains of flu.

People get more brain damage from listening to people who claim cell phones create brain damage than they ever would from a cell phone. People are spending more and more time on them because they are a tool that aids and eases our society. We have music, movies, games, gps, communication and the internet at our fingertips wherever we are. That is beyond incredible

Children all over the world have now got mobiles, PC, gaming consoles (including things like ipod, PSP, DS, etc.) which are affecting their education. This also leads to the most important, CYBER BULLYING. Cyber bullying is leading to more frequent deaths to people under 18 such as suicidal deaths. Technology is leading us to the worst for our future. The children wont get proper jobs when they grow up and they will end up on the streets.

A problem that can occur from spending too much time on a computer is that there is a high chance for damaging the eyes.
