A talent show is an event where participants perform talents of singing, dancing, acrobatics, acting, drumming, martial arts, playing an instrument, or other activities to showcase skills. Many talent shows are performances rather than contests, but some are actual contests. In the instance of a contest, participants may be motivated to perform for a reward, trophy, or prize of some kind. For example, a high school might not have many students with any interest in performing in front of the student body for the sole purpose of performing alone and may offer different prizes as an incentive for these students to participate in the contest.
In recent times, talent shows have become a notable genre of reality television, such as Idol, Got Talent, The X Factor, The Voice and Rising Star, which have been critical in catapulting some amateur artists to stardom and resulting in their commercially successful careers.
Talent shows can be seen as a way to help boost the self-esteem, confidence, and assurance of youth. Some communities and companies see talent shows as a way to help prevent juvenile delinquency among children, teens, and young adults. As a result, these communities create programs such as Girls Only! in San Diego to promote the growth of these otherwise trouble youth to better the community. Such programs are created with the hope to prevent youth from the possibilities of entering delinquency or lives of crime.

I was watching the "Country got talent" show and was wondering why so much human resource is put into something so stupid.
Why can't we have more engineers, doctors or problem solvers. Why do we need millions of dancers?
Well there are two sides of the coin. Not everyone can be well versed in arts, so we should encourage artists with true value. This is one side of it.
On the other side, these kind of talent shows go much beyond talent hunt and try to politicise the show to get a better TRP rating. Also, as the show doesn't concentrate on talent hunt as much, we see that many undeserving candidates come into limelight.
The amount of hype these psycho maniacal shows create is totally NOT worth it. But, as long as the audience keep cheering such shows and fall for these kind of obsessions, such shows would continue to rule the roost.

Black-hearted manufacturer caught selling expired nuts as organic food
TAIPEI (Taiwan News)—The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and Kaohsiung City prosecutors suspect Mother Nature (春橋田股份有限公司), a Taiwanese organic food manufacturer repackaged expired almonds, cashews, brown sugar and other raw materials which have entered organic food retail stores and have been consumed.
Expired food products confiscated from Mother Nature’s factory and company amounted to a total of 29 metric tons, and more than four company officials including company founder Hsu Li-ching (許立經) were detained by prosecutors, and are being held on NT$300,000 (US$ 9945) in bail.

Among the seven expired products, including cashews, almonds, brown sugar, and cereals that were being misleadingly labeled as "healthy organic foods,”it was found almond kernels (光之杏) sold by the company had the longest expiration, dating back to August 2009, said head of FDA Southern Taiwan Management Center Yang Chien-Hui (楊千慧).
Consuming almond kernels which have expired more than 9-years can present many health risks, according to Yen Tsung-hai (顏宗海), head of Toxicology Center, Linkou Chang Gung Medical Foundation (林口長庚醫院).
Expired foods are more prone to microorganism growth that can cause acute gastroenteritis, expired nuts in particular such as cashews, peanuts or almonds can be dangerous to consume due to the release of a harmful aflatoxin that can damage the liver, warned Yen.
The toxin can destroy both liver and kidney cells, and present many health hazards, he added.
FDA investigators are looking into the list of Mother Nature’s upstream and downstream suppliers to cull the expired products, according to an Apple Daily report, some of its products were accidentally sold by the big organic food franchise, Yogi House (無毒之家), which has more than 21 stores throughout the nation.
The company is only one among the 172 retailers affected by the expired food incident.
