Could a man and a woman be "just" friends? (Olga)

Can it be possible or is it just one of the old myths? Are we able to believe and find ourselves in a non-sexual relationship between man and woman?

Personally, I think there isn't any "true" answer to this question. Everyone has different approach and experience regarding true friendship. A coin has always two sides, that is why one of the sides, he or she, will be probably interested in more than just a platonic relationship.

Have you ever heard a saying: "men are from Mars and women are from Venus". I think the catchphrase is commonly used for both genders to show and to explain basic difference in thinking, communication style or expression of feelings. Nowadays the difference between two sexes is winding up and is becoming more and more unclear. Generally speaking, women were considered for a long time as a weaker sex. In these days, females have become as active as males in many countries; taking part in elections and in social events or even they have appeared to be more competitive in "typical'' men's jobs or sports. This shows that a man might see in a woman not only an object of beauty and physical attraction but think of her as a "workmate" and good a "buddy".

As it was believed many years ago, a platonic relationship couldn't be possible between male and female. Most probably it would end soon or later in "crossing the sex line". Women have been seen as sexual objects and created to give birth to their offspring. On the contrary, men have been taught and conditioned to hunt for food and protect their family.

When Harry Met Sally

Sally: We are just going to be friends, OK?

Harry: Great, friends. It’s the best thing…You realize, of course, that we can never be friends.

Sally: Why not?

Harry: What I’m saying is - and this is not a come-on in any way, shape, or form - is that men and women can’t be friends, because the sex part always gets in the way.

Sally: That’s not true. I have a number of men friends and there is no sex involved.

Harry: No, you don’t.

Sally: Yes, I do.
Questions:
1. Does true friendship exists between a man and a woman?
2. Do you want platonic cross-sex friends only? If you meet an attractive guy/girl?
3. Is platonic relationship a problem?
4. Can men/women be trusted?
5. Men and women really do see things differently?
6. Do you have strictly platonic cross-sex friends?

More Evidence That Sitting Leads To Cancer (Dina Spector)

Studies have already shown that inactivity from remaining seated all day —either at our desks or in a car — makes us fat and weak.

Lack of movement lowers our metabolism, which means we burn less calories. Insulin's ability to take up glucose from he blood is also reduced, which can lead to Type 2 diabetes.

In the latest study, out of Australia, researchers found that the more time people spent sitting, the higher their risk of developing chronic diseases like cancer, diabetes, heart disease and high blood pressure.

About 63,0000 Australian men between the ages of 45 and 64 were divided into four groups of daily sitting time: less than four hours, four to six hours, six to eight hours, or more than eight hours.

People who sat more, reported more chronic diseases.

The people who sat for more than eight hours had the highest risk; the group that sat for at least six hours were more likely to report having diabetes.

Kansas State University researcher Richard Rosenkranz said in statement that sitting is bad for our health because we're not expending much energy.

One thing isn't clear: Researchers don't know if sitting a lot leads to cancer or if the development of chronic diseases makes people sit more.

Questions:
1. Why sitting is a dangerous health threat? And sitting too much could shorten our lives?
2. How many hours do you work in a day? How many hours do you sit per day?
3. How many hours you should limit your sitting, to avoid the risk of getting caner?
4. Ways to stay healthy while working long hours
5. What exercises do you do to keep a good health? How often do you exercise?
6. What benefits exercise brings to us?

(American Journal

(University of Western Australia)

How to Be a Popular
(Edited by Rachel, Josh Hannah, James Quirk, Krystle C,)

Being popular is about more than just your clothes or how you do your hair or makeup. It's an entire lifestyle. It involves interacting with people in the right way, giving off an air of confidence, getting involved with everyone around you and getting people like you from the second they meet you.

1. A good impression

Make a good first impression on everybody you meet. Remember, you only get one chance to make a first impression, so make sure they remember you as a friend. So, remember not to be too shy. Don't be annoying or nosy about everything. Be nice to everyone and say hi to people you don't normally say hi to. Act confidently. Always be friendly!

2. Talking people’s interests

Talk about things that other people are in interested. People can be very passionate when talking about their interests. This will make you and especially the other(s) feel better about them. A boost of confidence never hurts!

3. Pay Attention to the Little Things

Listen more than you talk. People will want to be around someone who makes them feel better about themselves, not someone who is clearly just planning the next thing they're going to say. So don't be chatterbox; you can't listen with your mouth open. Ask them questions, but not enough to sound like a stalker. People love a person who takes the time to find more about them.

4. Compliment
Be all ears. Pay attention to what the other people are saying. Don't concentrate on yourself so much that you don't catch the person's name. Talk and compliment the person you are with or meeting. Don't try to compliment the popular people to get them to like you, and if you hate someone's hair, don't compliment it. If you see a quality that you like in someone, don't be afraid to speak up and compliment!

5.Be empathetic

Popular people know when someone needs a smiling friend, a compliment, or a hug. It's okay to be shy, but if you want to be popular, you have to smile, start conversations, and relate to people at their own level. That means talk about what the other person is interested in. Don't get stuck in the idea that you are shy or withdrawing. Realize that you are constantly changing, and that you are developing your social skills to the point where you could relate to all people. You have the right to change and grow.

Questions:

1. Do you know how to make new friends?

2. How to be popular among friends? How to get people to like you?

3. How to make friends with someone you've never spoken to before?

4. How to become friends with a girl or a boy?

5. Reasons why it's important to have good social skill?

6. How much do you care about your friends?

Extra-sensory perception (wise GEEK)

(ESP) refers to any phenomena in which one gains information through means other than the recognized physical senses. It is therefore a broad category. Though ESP has never been scientifically proven and has numerous critics and skeptics, many laboratory test results have strongly favored its existence, and many people claim personal experience with it. ESP includes such phenomena as telepathy, out-of-body experiences, clairvoyance or remote viewing, precognition or seeing the future, aura reading, and other instances of intuition and knowledge acquired without the use of the physical senses.

The field of study that deals with ESP, known as parapsychology, was developed by J. B. and Louisa Rhine at Duke University in the 1930s. The Rhines popularized the term, along with psi, the hypothetical agent through which the mind experiences ESP. They also introduced the use of Zener cards, designed by psychologist Karl Zener, to test it in the laboratory. The Zener cards consist of a deck of 25 cards with five different symbols, and perception is tested by recording the accuracy of the test subject's guesses about the symbols on cards he or she cannot see.

Though many laboratory experiments suggest that ESP is a real phenomenon, none are definitively conclusive, and many more have been unsuccessful. Critics complain that the experiments favoring it were conducted with improper methodology. ESP is, by its nature, difficult to test, since there is little consensus over how it works or what exactly would prove its existence. Few people are truly disinterested when it comes to this subject.

Interestingly, some laboratory tests on ESP found that those who believe in psi are more likely to score above chance when guessing Zener card symbols, while those who do not believe in psi often score below chance. Another interesting result showed people in a relaxed state of mind, such as hypnosis, to make accurate guesses about Zener cards twice as often as chance would indicate, while those who are not hypnotized tend to score around chance.

Questions:

1. Do you believe the supernatural exists? Why or why not?

2. Do you believe in sixth sense? Do women have a sixth sense?

3. Do you believe that some people have super powers? What super-power do you want?

4. Do you believe that some people have the ability to read someone's mind?

5.How to read someone's mind?

6. Do you believe in supernatural beings? Ghost and bad spirits?

5 Foods that Make You Smarter By The Nutrition Twins

The foods you eat can help by boosting brain health and keeping age-related cognitive decline.

1. Blueberries: People tend to forget about blueberries in the winter, but they’re available year round. Blueberries contain anthocyanins, which give them their blue tint and have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties that may reduce age-related cognitive decline and Alzheimer’s disease. Animal studies also show that a diet rich in blueberries improves learning in older animals and make them mentally equivalent to younger animals.

2. Salmon and sardines: We’ve all heard that fish is brain food and there’s good reason for it. Fatty fish, like salmon and sardines, are packed with omega 3’s, which protect the brain and support its development. Plus omega 3’s may play a vital role in enhancing memory, especially as we get older. People who get more omega 3’s have lower rates of dementia and slower mental decline. For brain and heart health, eat two servings weekly.

3. Apples: Apples contain compounds that may be able to protect the brain from the type of damage that triggers neurodegenerative diseases like Parkinson's and Alzheimer's. One of those compounds, a flavonoid called quercetin, has been shown to protect the brain from oxidative damage. We’ve had an apple nearly every day since high school, usually with breakfast. We hope it works its magic on us, as Alzheimer’s has affected members of our family.

4. Eggs:When it comes to the brain and eggs, don’t forget about the yolk. Yolks contain one of the most important nutrients for building better brains: choline. Choline contributes to healthy and efficient brain processes. Getting adequate amounts of choline, especially during fetal development and early childhood, may help us learn more readily and also help us retain what we learn. Plus, sufficient choline intake early on may give us the mental building blocks we need to help keep memory intact as we age. As we age, our body’s natural choline output declines, and its neurochemical action weakens. So this is the time that you also want to eat choline-rich foods to increase your production of acetylcholine, which will improve your brain power.

5. Tea: Green, black, and oolong tea contain an amino acid called theanine, which can bring about both mental calmness and alertness that allows you to perform your best. Plus, the warm drink decreases stress so you can focus better.

Questions:

1. In your opinions what food can make you smarter?

2. Do you think some certain food make us smarter? Or happier?

3. Eating the right food can improves your mind and IQ?

4. Foods that make you dumb? Please give some examples?

5. Food that makes us energetic? Please give some examples?

6. What food affects your moods?

French President Francois Hollande hits businesses with 75 percent tax (The Washington time)

A court may have shot down French President Francois Hollande’s attempt to stick the wealthy with a 75 percent tax on earnings above a certain amount. But he’s not giving up. Mr. Hollande’s new plan: Stick the 75 percent tax on businesses.

Companies — not individuals — would have to pay the high tax on any salaries that are paid over a million euros, under Mr. Hollande’s latest proposal, Newsmax reports.

The Socialist leader is trying to reignite a sluggish economy — as he promised during his campaign — but is facing dwindling poll numbers and approval ratings. His recent attempt to tax wealthy at a 75 percent rate was denied in a constitutional court.

He said now his“first objective is to reverse the unemployment rate,” as quoted in Newsmax.

Questions:

1. Should the wealthy pay more taxes? Why the rich should pay more taxes?

2. Will raising taxes on the wealthy create economic growth? Reasons?

3. Will raising taxes on rich hurt economic growth? Reasons?

4. What do you think that the economics of sin taxes?

(“sin taxes” are so called because they are levied on those commodities, such as tobacco and alcohol, which are the objects of widespread disapproval.)

5. How to raise tax if you were a minister of finance?
