Apparel Accessories and Luxury Goods   Aza Wee Sile  www.cnbc.com

According to a Bomoda report, Chinese consumers preferred to shop for luxury goods overseas because they were more confident of the branded good's authenticity. A belief that luxury goods sold abroad were superior to locally sold merchandise, as well as prices that were up to 40 percent lower due to the lack of Chinese import taxes, also helped spur purchases, Bomoda found.

"The challenge today is to track where [Chinese consumers] travel," said Leopold-Metzger, alluding to the way retailers must respond to the change in spending patterns.

Despite the decline in luxury goods sales, the Piaget CEO said the mainland remained one of the brand's priorities.

"There is a lot of wealth created every day in Asia, China and everywhere across the region," Leopold-Metzger noted, adding that Piaget was opening new stores in China where there was demand, and using sharper pricing strategies to attract domestic consumers.

"We have to create excitement," he said.

Asia and luxury once slotted together as well as Cinderella and the glass slipper, but as China's economic situation deteriorated, the slipper become somewhat ill-fitting.

Take Italian fashion house, Prada. The brand has published a slew of disappointing earnings reports this year, naming Asia-Pacific as the region weighing down growth. Other luxury brands have managed to float above water by relying on demand from the U.S. and Europe.

Designers and fashion chief executives were determinedly optimistic at this month's London Fashion Week, in a city well-frequented by wealthy Chinese looking to buy European luxury brands.

"China – specifically Hong Kong, Macau – everybody knows there's been a struggle there. However, the important thing is to keep making sure you have a point of view, make sure you keep your authenticity and give the best customer service in those countries," Christopher Bailey, chief executive of Burberry told CNBC.
Can luxury brands afford a devalued yuan?

Fellow U.K. fashion brand, Paul Smith, has only a handful of shops in China but is widespread in Japan. Smith told CNBC that he was cautious on Asia, but insisted the brand was in a "strong position compared to others."
Q:
What do you think about luxury goods?
Why Chinese love the luxury brands?
Do you buy luxury brands?
Why some women like luxury hand bags?
Do you follow fashion? Why do people follow fashion?
What do you think about Chinese new rich?
Why some people consider luxury brands as strong social position?

Tips to Overcome Negative Thoughts: Positive Thinking Made Easy  by Michelle Uy, That’s Fit.ca
Even though I’m a yoga teacher, I still find it’s easy to fall prey to negative thinking. Having negative thoughts play out like a movie can only bring you pain, something that I’ve experienced many times throughout my life.
Negative thoughts drain you of energy and keep you from being in the present moment. The more you give in to your negative thoughts, the stronger they become. I like the imagery of a small ball rolling along the ground, and as it rolls, it becomes bigger and faster.
That’s what one small negative thought can turn into: a huge, speeding ball of ugliness. On the contrary, a small positive thought can have the same effect blossoming into a beautiful outcome.
I’d like to share with you an example of how one small thought can turn into a very negative experience.
For the last ten years, I have lived on my own. Obviously during this time, I’ve grown accustomed to living in a particular way; I have my routines with cooking, cleaning and living happily in my place.
My boyfriend of two years who I have had a long distance relationship with will soon be moving here and we will be living together. Lately, I’ve had negative thoughts of moving in with him knowing that my living routine will have to change and we will have to create a new routine together.
Unfortunately, I’ve already jumped into the future and have had thoughts that we will not be able to come up with a living arrangement that will make us both happy. In my mind, I have seen myself already getting angry about our cooking and cleaning situation.
He came for a surprise visit this past weekend and boy, was it a surprise for him. We had a miserable weekend together. I did not enjoy his company because I was already angry with him and he was confused and equally frustrated with me. What could have been a really fabulous weekend ended up being a painful and heavy weekend.
When we start to have negative thoughts, it’s hard to stop them. And it’s much easier said than done to shift your focus to positive thoughts. But, it’s the only way—especially if you want to avoid going down a path that is painful and unnecessary.
Here are 10 things I did to help overcome my negative thoughts that you can also try:
1. Meditate or do yoga.
One of the first things I did was head to a yoga class. It took my focus away from my thoughts and brought my attention to my breath. Yoga is also very relaxing which helped ease my mind. Yoga helped me stay present to my experience so instead of jumping to what could happen, it brought me back to the now—the only moment, the most important moment.
2. Smile.
I didn’t do much of this during the weekend so I literally had to bring myself in front of a mirror and force myself to smile. It really does help change your mood and relieve stress. I also felt lighter because it takes fewer muscles to smile than to frown.
3. Surround yourself with positive people.
I called a friend who I knew could give me constructive, yet loving feedback. When you’re stuck in a negative spiral, talk to people who can put things into perspective and won’t feed your negative thinking.
4. Don’t play the victim. You create your life—take responsibility.
The way I was thinking and acting, you would think I was stuck. Even if our living situation becomes unbearable, there is always a way out. I will always have the choice to make change happen, if need be.
5. Sing.
I don’t remember lyrics very well and it’s probably the reason that I don’t enjoy singing, but every time I do sing I always feel better . When we sing, we show our feelings and this provides an amazing stress relief.
6. List five things that you are grateful for right now.
Being grateful helps appreciate what you already have. Here’s my list: My cats, health, a six-week trip to Asia, a new yoga class that I’ll be teaching, and for my mom’s biopsy coming out clean.
7. Read positive quotes.
I like to place Post-It notes with positive quotes on my computer, fridge door and mirror as reminders to stay positive. Also, I’d like to share with you a quote by an unknown author that was shared in a meditation class that I attended:
Q:

1. How the negative thoughts Influences our Health?

2. How to overcome the Influence of negative Thinking for Greater Success?

3. Can the negative thoughts of others Influence Us?

4. How to Erase Negative Influence and Live Positively?

5. Can positive thinking Really Improve our life?

Tips to Improve Your People Skills

Posted on June 22, 2015 by Mary Gormandy White, M.A., SPHR, SHRM-SCP

Get to Know Your Natural Style Tendencies
“Personality style has a major impact on how we naturally approach interacting with other people,” Olson explains. “Using a validated personality assessment like Everything DiSC is a great way to develop a strong understanding of your natural tendencies in your work environment and get the information you need to help adapt your communication. He advises, “Just completing the online assessment can be beneficial, though you can get even more benefit from pairing your assessment with individualized or group training by better understanding how to improve your specific communication goals.”

Learn to Adapt to Other People’s Personality Styles
To really improve your people skills, it’s important to go beyond just understanding your own personality style to also finding out how
to read and adapt to the styles of other people. Olson explains, “Knowing your style lets you know how you naturally approach situations and clarifies what kinds of responses come easily to you versus which ones require more work, but to really improve your people skills, you’ll need to learn how to read other people. This will let you know what approach to take when interacting with people whose personality styles are very different from yours while helping you take advantage of their strengths.”

Really Listen to What People Are Saying
“Really paying attention to what other people are saying is also an important aspect of improving your people skills,” says Olson. He explains, “Effective listening requires much more than just hearing the words that people say or reading what they have written. Beyond just the words, you also have to consider the context of communication, the other person’s personality style, and any nonverbal signals the person is sending when deciding what they mean and respond accordingly.” He advises, “Listening is an active process. Realize that you may need to ask clarifying questions to really get a deep understanding of the other person’s needs.”
Q:

How to develop good communication skills?

Reasons why our plastic bag habit is bad    By  Emily Gosden  telegraph.co.uk

As new figures show Britons took home 8.5 billion single-use carrier bags from supermarkets last year, here's why the Government is trying to cut down on their usage

The Government is introducing a 5p charge on single-use plastic carrier bags in England in October to try to curb their usage.

Here are five reasons ministers gave to help explain why we should be cutting down on the number of bags we use.

1. They are unsightly
Discarded plastic bags are, in the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs’s words, “an iconic symbol of waste”. Billions of bags are used by shoppers in the UK each year and “far too many of these bags made their way onto the streets and into the countryside as unsightly litter”.

2. They are bad for wildlife
Plastic bags can choke or poison fish, animals and birds, with marine wildlife particularly vulnerable. As a study cited by the Government explains, “when seabirds, sea mammals or fish ingest plastic particles, blocking of the gut is likely to harm or even kill the organism”.

The RSPB warns that birds can mistake the bags for fish or nesting materials. If their legs or heads become entangled, it can prove fatal.

3. They are costly to clear up
Littered carrier bags cost taxpayers in England about £10 million a year in clean-up costs, Defra says.

4. They take years to decompose
As Defra says, “even when disposed of responsibly, plastic bags can last for long periods of time in landfill sites”. In the UK, some 16,000 tonnes of waste is sent to landfill each year – where, according to campaigners, the plastic bags can take 1,000 years to decompose.

How do I choose between enjoying my life and working hard for the future?

I'm a recent college graduate, I'll be working as a software engineer in one of the top companies. Recently I've been reading a lot of articles by successful people giving advises for college graduates. From what I've learnt from them is either you can work really hard, day and night to climb up the ladder or you can live your life like it's your last day and enjoy as much as you can.
Both the methods make sense to me, I know I won't be 22 again so I want to live my life and enjoy but then it's the best time to work really hard and build a solid base for rest of my life. What should I do?

Answers    Sourabh Agrawal

It would really depend on how much money you already have. If you don't have a lot you won't get to experience a lot of things anyway. Being successful doesn't necessarily mean you would be unhappy and it's not like successful people don't enjoy, they do.

We measure ourselves up against the people around us and our friends. You will do that too. You will start feeling a pinch when your friends would be doing better than you after a few years. And eventually, most of the things would come only with success, the car you wanna drive, the place to wanna go, the watch you wanna wear, the house you wanna own, the girl you wanna date.

So, you need to find a middle path between happiness and success. Try to figure out how much can you give up for work and while doing that be biased towards giving more to work.

Ways To Be a Little More Giving This Season  by Nicolette

Visit those who are lonely.
Some of the best gifts aren’t “things.”  A cheery visit to someone who lives alone may be just the nourishment they need.  Take your family caroling at an assisted living facility.  Visit a neighbor or family member who lives alone.  Save your children’s artwork to take as a small gift to brighten their day.
“We like doing Santa for seniors each year.  We sign up to give a senior items they want or need.  I found it very heartwarming myself to know that we can help seniors and not just kids during this time.”

Operation Christmas Child.
Operation Christmas Child invites your family to pack a shoebox full of gifts for children in need all around the world.  Your children will love playing an active part in making another child’s Christmas brighter.  You can even track the destination of your box!  *Note that the shoebox collection week occurs in November, but you can still build a shoebox online!  You can also send completed boxes year-round to their headquarters here.

Give the gift of family time.
I like this particular suggestion that I would never normally think of.  It’s a great thing to keep in mind when giving gifts this season.

“One thing that I really appreciated while my husband was a student was when an anonymous person gave our family gift certificates for a movie. We hadn’t been able to do a family activity like that for a long, long time. I’d buy gift cards for an activity that a family wouldn’t normally be able to do.
”

Helping the homeless.
“We give back during the holiday by packing back packs for the homeless with clothing items, toiletries, and food.  It comes with a sleeping bag as well.  So far, since last month, we have given out 12 and have ten more we are packing now…we love doing it.
”

“My kids are still young, but when they are old enough, I’d love to make it a family tradition to serve at a soup kitchen or pack lunch bags and deliver to the homeless. From experience, you’ll make a bigger impact and acts of kindness become more meaningful if you work with the people directly and get to meet those you are helping.
”

What do you think about Christmas?
How to help others on Christmas?
How to pick good Christmas presents
What are the ways to celebrate Christmas?

Have you ever donated old clothes to charities?

Signs You’re Dating The Wrong Person    Mila Jaroniec

You suspect they like hearing the sound of their own voice more than they like hearing yours.
Their project in life is your relationship — they have no goals, dreams, or aspirations of their own and define themselves by who they’re with instead of what they do.

They’re disrespectful to your family. To your face. And they don’t think there’s anything wrong with that.

They treat you less like a partner and more like a possession. As in, they don’t care so much about who you are per se, but who you are for/with/in relation to them.

They can’t take responsibility for their own emotions — they will always find room to say “Well if YOU hadn’t done x…” even if you had absolutely nothing to do with their bad mood.

They are constantly disapproving and discouraging of your goals and efforts, to the point where you don’t even bother telling them what you want anymore since they’ll cut it down anyway.

They fight dirty. Sure, fighting is a normal part of any relationship, but it’s pretty easy to decipher how someone really feels about you during a fight by the type of insults they hurl.

They’re never genuinely sorry. Even when they do apologize, they still try to convince you they were right.

They’re suspicious of everything you say and do and constantly accuse you of violating their trust, but guess who’s going through your phone and hacking into your email?

You can’t depend on them. You already know you wouldn’t call them first in the event of an emergency because they probably wouldn’t answer the phone.

Q:
What are the signs that you’re dating the wrong person?
What to do if your boyfriend or girlfriend was disrespectful to your family?
What to do if your boyfriend or girlfriend treated you only like a possession?
What to do if your boyfriend or girlfriend cannot control their own emotions?
What to do if your boyfriend or girlfriend suspicious of everything you say?
Can you trust your boyfriend or girlfriend who can really help when you were in the event of an emergency?

Reasons Critics Are Awesome    Susie Moore Confidence Coach, New York City

"No one ever kicks a dead dog" -- Dale Carnegie

1. It means you are doing something

In order to be criticized, it means you are taking action in some form. Aristotle said, "The only way to avoid criticism is to say nothing, do nothing and be nothing." People who are making things happen in the world and actually doing or standing for something are the only ones who are criticized.

2. It can make you better

When criticism is positively-fueled and constructive, we can improve, learn and grow. I love hearing thoughtful and useful feedback about my writing and coaching style. I take it all on board and use what works for me. Constructive criticism can express a great form of people's love for you. It can give you great insight and direction if your heart is open and the energy behind the feedback is well-meaning, considered and kind.

3. The person shows you who they really are

Anais Nin wisely said, "We don't see things as they are, we see them as we are." Negatively-fueled critics therefore show us who they really are -- often unfulfilled people who are therefore naturally unsupportive of your success. The way they react to what you are doing is a reflection of how they feel about their own lives. You can make a judgment call early on at how exposed you want to be to these people in your life.

4. You prove worthy of other people's energy

When a critic, in person or online or whatever form they take, makes the effort to write or comment about you, it means you are affecting people somehow. They are using their time and attention to talk about you. You are not being ignored. Funnily enough, being the subject of someone's criticism is a flattering thing.

無聊時 應做甚麼?
Things to Do to Keep From Getting Bored Out of Your Skull at Work   zenhabits.net
The cure for boredom is curiosity. There is no cure for curiosity. – Dorothy Parker

Create a new challenge. I think this is by far the best thing on the list, but you may differ. Many times we’re bored because we don’t have a challenge — things are too easy or routine. So instead of waiting for someone to create a challenge for you, do it yourself. How can you challenge yourself? Set a new goal at work. Challenge yourself to produce more than ever. Explore new projects. Set personal goals and pursue them. Whatever excites you.

List your life goals. What is it you want to accomplish in life? Not just with work, but personally? If you’ve listed them before, it’s always good to update them. Then choose one of those goals to achieve this year. Now think about what you can do today to move closer to that goal, even if it’s just a small thing. Get the ball rolling. Do this every day — move yourself closer to that goal.

Pursue a hobby. My hobby (until it became a profession) was blogging … I would do it at work in my spare time, or before or after work. Not everyone can pursue their hobby at work — the model airplane glue might bother your coworkers, for example — but sometimes you can just read about it while at work. I was upfront about my blogging and freelancing at work with my boss, btw, but many people get away with doing it on the sly. I won’t make a recommendation, but just don’t get fired.

Improve your skills. Along the same lines: choose a skill that needs sharpening, and challenge yourself to get better at it. Whether that’s computer programming, writing, working with Adobe InDesign, or whatever. Perfect your skills — you can use it to further your career, get a new job, or become self-employed. Or just have the satisfaction of knowing you’re the best you can be at that skill.

Write a love letter. If you have a significant other, write a letter telling them why you love them. They’ll love it. Email is fine, but pen and paper are even better.

Get wild! Sometimes we just need to let loose. Start singing at the top of your lungs, or dance around the office. Sure, people might stare or laugh, but a little fun in the office isn’t a bad thing. Or get out of the office and do something fun or crazy. One afternoon of wildity isn’t going to hurt you (well, stay away from things that are illegal or life-threatening, if possible).

“坐立”測試 你還能活多久
The exercise that predicts your DEATH: Struggling with 'sitting-rising test' means you're 5 times more likely to die early    By Sarah Griffiths for MailOnline

The simple exercise of sitting down and standing up again without holding onto anything, could suggest how long you have to live.

This is the belief of a group of physicians, who came up with the ‘sitting-rising test’ to measure their patients’ flexibility and strength.

They developed a scoring system for the test and found that people who scored three points or less out of 10, were more than five times as likely to die within six years, as those who scored more than eight points.

Claudio Gil Araujo, of Gama Filho University in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, was among the doctors who originally developed the sitting rising test (SRT) to quickly assess the flexibility of athletes, but he now uses it to persuade his patients that they need to stay active to maintain their muscle and balance, and live longer, Discover Magazine reported.

In a study, published in the European Journal of Preventive Cardiology, the researchers described how 2002 adults aged between 51 and 80 took the SRT at Clinimex Exercise Medicine Clinic in Rio.

They found that patients who scored fewer than eight points out of 10 on the test, were twice as likely to die within the next six years, compared with people with more perfect scores.

One point was deducted each time a person used their hand or knee for support to either sit down or stand up, while half a point was deducted for losing their balance.

The experts found that people who scored three points or fewer, were more than five times as likely to die within the same period.

They wrote in the study: ‘Musculoskeletal fitness, as assessed by SRT, was a significant predictor of mortality in 51–80-year-old subjects.’
