Billy

Japan Develops Smartphone Application That Sends Smells
(Oct 13, 2012 by karenmasuda)
We all have certain smells that affect us in different ways. If I say, “I loved the smell of magic markers and glue as a kid”, you could probably relate. It doesn’t have to be the smell of roses or freshly baked cookies for us to understand olfactory connections.
An application that enables you to send smells through iPhones could be a way to strengthen the bonds of communication. That is what Chaku Perfume Co. Ltd. believes, and is why they developed a new communication service in the way of an iPhone application and device called “Chat Perf,” which can send smells across cyber space.
「空氣罐頭」cans of fresh air (By Shan Li January 31, 2013)
An eccentric Chinese multi-millionaire is selling what smoggy Beijing dearly needed in the past two weeks -- fresh air.
Chen Guangbiao and his colleagues have taken to the streets to sell hundreds of cans of fresh air -- purportedly collected from far-flung and pristine regions of China.
Beijing's air quality often registers far into the unhealthy zone, but this month has shocked citizens with the worst ever recorded smog.
Chen started his campaign last September.
Footage provided by his office shows a truck which sold his cans as it made its way across the country.
Footage provided by him shows people holding the cans performing a slow dance and scooping the air inside.
Proceeds from selling the cans for five yuan each will be donated to charity.

In the year since Japan's Fukushima disaster, much of the world has turned away from nuclear power. Germany has plans to close down all of its nuclear plants by 2022, and Japan has already shut down all 54 reactors.
But Taiwan is notfollowing suit. Despite campaign promises to move Taiwan away from nuclear power, the newly re-elected President Ma Ying-jou has vowed to go forward with the opening of a contentious fourth nuclear power plant.

Les Misérables
Short summary:
The major plot
involves Jean Valjean who is released from prison, and through the kindness of
Father Myriel, becomes a new man. He gets a new name via association with
Myriel and his obvious kindness and generosity to others and gradually builds a
successful and prosperous life for himself with a renovation of the jet-work
industry in Montreuil-surmer. One of his employees is-although unknown to
him-fired by the head mistress because of an illegitimate baby. Fantine goes
from one occupation to another, finally becoming a prostitute.
A minor incident
takes place in the streets, and Fantine is arrested by Javert. Valjean, who has
become known as Mayor Madeleine, forces Javert to release her and takes her
into his own house when he hears her story. Fantine is in extremely poor
health, however, and dies without ever seeing her child again, even though
Valjean had promised to get the child.
Meanwhile, another
man has been arrested and mistakenly identified as Valjean. Valjean appears in
court, revealing the truth and losing both his business and his position in
Montreuil-sur-mer. Although he is arrested, he breaks out long enough to hide
his fortune. He spends additional time in prison, working aboard a ship.
Eventually he escapes again and retrieves Cosette from the evil Thenardiers
whom Fantine had trusted to take care of the child.
Then begins 10
years of hiding, moving from place to place, always staying just ahead of
Javert. Seven or eight happy years are spend in a convent where Valjean works
with the gardener and Cosette attends a girls’ school.
Feeling that
Cosette must have opportunity to experience all of life, they leave the convent
when she is about 15. Valjean is nearly betrayed and recaptured due to the
insidious if somewhat unwitting deeds of the Thenardiers.
While Valjean is
continuously on the lookout for people who might have guessed his identity and
makes their home always in out of the way places, Cosette becomes aware of her
own femininity and beauty. She and Marius spot each other and fall in love.
Marius is a
college student who has been raised by his grandfather after the old man had
disowned his son-in-law for supporting Napoleon. Marius discovers the truth
about his father shortly after his death and enmity develops between himself
and his grandfather. With little income, Marius in unable to marry Cosette and
prevent Valjean from taking her away again, and his grandfather refuses to give
consent for a marriage to someone he assumes is beneath him.
In Paris,
politics, work issues, and various unsatisfactory conditions are gradually
bringing a faction of workers and college students to the point of revolt. An
insurrection takes place; Marius joins in hoping to die since he will not be
able to have Cosette. Valjean joins the insurrection because he believes he is
losing Cosette’s love and because, although he hates him bitterly, he intends
to try to protect Marius for Cosette.
When the
barricades are finally overtaken, Valjean rescues Marius and escapes through
the city sewers. Marius is unconscious and does not know who rescued him. When
his health returns, he insists once again on marrying Cosette, and this time
the grandfather relents. Old wounds are at least partially healed. As Javert is
also dead, it would seem that Cosette, Valjean, Marius and his grandfather
could all form one happy family. Cosette and Marius marry, but Valjean reveals
the truth of himself to Marius who gradually banishes him from even seeing
Cosette.
The Thenardiers
are a continuous nuisance and occasionally a real threat throughout the book,
but in spite of Thenardier’s intention to bring harm to Valjean, he actually
reveals the truth of Valjean’s history to Marius.
Valjean dies in
the end, but it is with contentment after a joyful reunion with Cosette. He is
content to know that Cosette and Marius have “forgiven” him, although it seems
as though Valjean himself is the one who has the right to be on the forgiving
end of things.
'Les Misérables': quotes
“ Nobody knows
like a woman how to say things that are both sweet and profound. Sweetness and
depth, this is all of woman; this is Heaven.”
"To love
another person is to see the face of God."
“Laughter is
sunshine, it chases winter from the human face.”
“Even the darkest
night will end and the sun will rise.”
"The bishop
approached him and said, in a low voice, 'Do not forget, ever, that you have
promised me to use this silver to become an honest man.' Jean Valjean, who had
no recollection of any such promise, stood dumbfounded. The bishop had stressed
these words as he spoke them. He continued solemnly, 'Jean Valjean, my brother,
you no longer belong to evil, but to good. It is your soul I am buying for you.
I withdraw it from dark thoughts and from the spirit of perdition, and I give
it to God!"
"愛" "寬恕" "慈悲" 我從這個故事看到 你能做到 有人偷你的錢 你不責怪他 反而再送他一個錢包嗎?

And I think to myself
What a wonderful world
The colors of the rainbow
So pretty in the sky

I see friends shaking hands

They're really saying I love you
I hear babies cry, I watch them grow
They learn much more

What Is Premeditated Murder? (wiseGEEK)
Premeditated murder is a murder committed by someone who planned ahead. The laws surrounding premeditated murder vary, but as a general rule it is treated as the most serious form of murder because of the fact that the murderer planned to kill beforehand. This is contrasted with situations in which people murder by accident, as for example in the heat of an argument. Usually, when premeditation is involved, a murder is treated as a first degree murder, which carries the stiffest penalties.
Premeditation can take a number of forms. Sometimes it involves working out the most effective way to kill someone, ranging from selecting a method which is likely to work on the first try to tracking someone's habits in order to pick an opportune moment. Additionally, premeditation can include thinking ahead to try and evade capture. For example, if someone obtains an unregistered gun and uses gloves to handle it, she or he has clearly both planned a murder method and taken steps to avoid capture and thus is planning to commit a premeditated murder.
In the case of first degree murder, in addition to premeditation, the murderer must also have“malice,” a desire to kill, along with deliberation, meaning that the murderer was fully aware that his or her actions would lead to death or serious injury. Proof of malice can include something like using a deadly weapon in an argument, statements made which indicated hatred for the victim, or statements made during questioning.

Gay Rabbit God Temple
All religions address both spiritual needs and issues of here and now. New deities and even new religions often emerge to address needs or during times of social change. The founding of the Gay Rabbit God Temple in Taipei is one such example.
About five years ago (2005), a Taoist priest made spiritual contact with the Rabbit God and decided that should five same sex couples approach the temple for prayers or spiritual help, he will establish a temple dedicated to the Rabbit God.
Although at that time, they did not have specific programs for gay couples, five couples did indeed turn up. The priest took this as a sign and officially established the Rabbit Temple.
History of the Rabbit God
The Rabbit God Temple worships the Rabbit Deity who lived in Qing dynasty China as Hu Tianbao, 胡天保. He was attracted to an imperial inspector and was beaten to death after his infatuation was exposed. Officials of the Hades empathized with his unrequited love and appointed him as the deity overseeing homosexual relationships. As rabbits are symbols of Chinese homoeroticism, he became known as the Rabbit God, 兔儿神.
Since its opening, the temple has attracted many same sex couples from Taiwan and other parts of the world as well as singles who in search of their future partner. On the side wall of the temple is a notice board for visitors to leave a message for the Rabbit God. It might be a request for help in their search for love or a thank you note.
Contextualizing the Gay Rabbit God Temple
The emergence of the Gay Rabbit God Temple should be understood against two related trends in Taiwan.
With regards to social attitudes on homosexual issues, Taiwan is one of the most progressive societies in Asia and in the Chinese world. In fact, the 2003 Taiwan Pride was the first gay pride parade in any Chinese majority society. In the 2005 Taiwan Pride, the Taipei Mayor Ma Ying-Jeou, 馬英九, participated in the opening ceremony and even declared that "being gay is a natural state that cannot be repressed".
If you wonder about the need to state the obvious, a look around Asia will provide an answer.
In 2007, the Singapore Parliament debated the repeal of section 377A of the Penal Code that criminalizes sex between men. A Nominated Member of Parliament (NMP) Thio Li-ann, a law professor in the National University of Singapore (NUS), made a notorious speech in support of section 377A.
In a long speech, she argued, in the Singapore Parliament, that: “You cannot make a human wrong a human right.”, “There are no ex-Blacks but there are ex-gays.” and her infamous: “Anal sex is..............like shoving a straw up your nose to drink.”
In the end, Section 377A was not repealed. Same sex activities between consenting adults, even lovers, continue to be a criminal offence in Singapore.
Secondly, Taiwan has the culture of Yue Lao worship. Yue Lao,月老, or Old Man under the moon is a Chinese deity in charged of love affairs. In many Taiwan temples, there is a chamber for his worship and couples or singles in search of love leave messages there. The Rabbit God is thus the counterpart of Yue Lao and in charged of homosexual relationships.
Towards an inclusive future
Moving beyond Taiwan, a deity in charged of gay relationships is refreshing news. In many countries, religious condemnation and criminal persecution of the homosexuals is very common.
In a landscape of bigotry and ignorance, the Rabbit God arises as one who not only does not condemn the gay individuals but assists in their search for love. That explains the international interest in the Gay Rabbit God Temple.
