Miss Korea 2018 Closed Her Instagram After Receiving Tons Of Hate Messages
koreaboo.com
A 23-year-old Miss Gyeonggi winner Soo Min Kim was throned the 62nd Miss Korea in the 2018 Miss Korea Contest. She will be taking home the winning prize of $90K, half of which is a scholarship.
“Thank you for the honorable prize. I will continue to work hard.” — Soo Min Kim
As soon as she won, her name trended on Korean search engines and her social media platform saw a spike in visitors. As the face to represent Korea, Soo Min Kim received a lot of attention — including hatred and criticism.
Soo Min Kim had shut down her Instagram account to private, in an attempt to deal with the malicious comments in the comments section.
A day since, the account has been set back to public, with “2018 MISS KOREA added to her profile. Most of the malicious comments have been deleted.
Some Korean netizens stirred up a heated debate over whether she “deserved” to win Miss Korea.
“Honestly, my own sister is prettier than she is.”
“She’s Miss Korea…? She looks like my next door neighbor.”
“She had some interesting aspects… but not Miss Korea worthy.”
“She is so average though… How is she Miss Korea?”
“LMAO What is this nonsense! She looks 30 years old.”
Others even began to question the nature of the beauty pageant itself.
“Why are we still evaluating women by their looks and bodies? When is this ‘contest’ going to shut down?”
“Miss Korea has long turned into a beauty pageant to pick who has had the most plastic surgery done. How meaningless!”
“An Instagram ‘influencer’ was one of the judges. So much to the legitimacy of this contest. Miss Korea is dead.”
Soo Min Kim claimed she wants to become an international reporter. Koreans wonder, however, if she will continue to pursue that dream as previous Miss Koreas like Honey Lee, Kim Sa Rang, and Kim Sung Ryung have picked up acting and turned into successful celebrities.

Tips on How to Handle a Loud Person in the Office
toughnickel
Having loud co-workers in the workplace can be a monster to tackle. Customers come and go, but you could be stuck with your co-workers for years. The tips below should help you handle a loud person in the office.
Ignore them. This should be the first step in the process. Unless it is a work related issue, just ignore them. If you don't speak to them or engage them in conversation, they may get the hint. Eventually they will get tired of having a one sided conversation and stop talking altogether.
Talk to the entire office about it. Have a group meeting where everyone agrees to keep their voices at a subdued volume as it won't distract others, yet will still allow conversations to happen. This addresses the issue without singling one person out.
Ask the co-worker if you are doing anything that is bothering them. This could be the easiest way to broach the subject. If they state something that you do that bothers them, you could do the same in return. Just don't get offended if they are honest with you.
Tell your co-worker directly how loud they are. Either try to slip in some jokes about it, make a comment about it, or directly confront the employee about how loud they are. Any way you do it, it will offend the person eventually. No one likes being told something about them that isn't liked, so it'll create some tension at first.
Turn up the music. If your workplace allows it, play some music to drown out the loud talker. If they start talking loud, turn the music up. This is a good way to get the point across that they are too loud and need to tone it down a bit.
Distract yourself. Find ways to reduce the stress caused by your loud co-worker. Step out of the office for minute, eat your favorite snack, or fidget with something. Finding a way to reduce the stress of the situation may make it easier to handle in the long term.
Tell your boss. If a co-worker is distracting you with how loud they are, you can go to your supervisor and advise them of the problem. The difficulty in this is that it can be hard to tell someone to be quiet. Being loud could be part of a person's personality. You can't fix or change a person's personality. Unless the employee is being purposely loud, difficult, or otherwise rude, there may not be much your boss can do for you that you haven't already tried yourself.
Very Direct Ways on Dealing with a Loud Person in the Office
Tone and Attitude Are Important
Always maintain a positive tone and attitude when dealing with your customers, regardless of how loud and obnoxious they may get.

4 Types of Difficult People and How to Deal scienceofpeople.com
We all have someone in our life who drives us nuts! And they are exhausting, frustrating and annoying to deal with—but I have some ways to help.
Here are some ideas for how you can handle the difficult person in your life:
1. Identify the 4 Types
There are 4 different types of difficult people. Think about the person in your life and figure out which category they are in:
Downers are also known as Negative Nancy’s or Debbie Downers. They always have something bad to say. They complain, critique and judge. They are almost impossible to please.
Better Thans are also known as Know It All’s, One Upper’s or Show-Offs. They like to try to impress you, name-drop and compare.
Passives are also known as Push-Overs, Yes Men and Weaklings. They don’t contribute much to conversations or people around them and let others do the hard work.
Tanks are also known as being explosive, a handful or bossy. They want their way and will do anything to get it.

2. Don’t Try to Change Them
When we meet a difficult person, or if we have one in our family or circle of friends our instinct is to try to change them. We try to encourage Downers to be more positive, Passives to stand up for themselves, Tanks to calm down and Better Thans to be more humble. This never works! In fact, when you try to change someone they tend to resent you, dig in their heels, and get worse.
3. Try to Understand Them
The way to disengage a difficult person is to try to understand where they are coming from. I try to find their value language. A value language is what someone values most. It is what drives their decisions. For some people it is money; for others, it is power or knowledge. This not only helps me understand them, but also helps them relax and become more open minded. For example, sometimes Tanks just want to explain their opinion. If you let them talk to you, that might help them not blow up or try to dominate a situation.
4. Don’t Let Them Be Toxic
Some difficult people can be toxic. Toxic people can be passive aggressive, mean or hurtful. So if you have to deal with them, you can understand where they are coming from and then keep your distance. Toxic relationships are harmful so you need to create a buffer zone by surrounding yourself with good friends, seeing them less and if you have to be with them, do it for the minimum amount of time.

Women's self-defense classes offered in Taipei following string of murders
Taiwan News
TAIPEI (Taiwan News) -- In response to the recent string of gruesome murders, MOWES (Moving Women Establishment), a community space advocating for female empowerment located in Taipei's Da'an District, had their first self-defense class for women on June 27.
Founder and co-founder of the space, Maja Ho(侯梅婷) and Kai Hsieh (謝鎧安), organized these sessions as a response to the 14 female homicides in the past month involving violent encounters with men.
"These incidents were shocking, I didn’t expect them to happen -- especially in Taiwan” said self-defense teacher and Tae-Kwon Do instructor, Russell Stuart. He conducted the first class starting by teaching the women how to detect warning signs and different release techniques to get away from aggressive wrist grabs and posterior grabs.
They learned how to use their body weight against an attacker and how to target key body parts, such as the eyes, nose, knees and legs, to disorient them. “You never really know what could happen so you have to prepare yourself the best you can for every situation,” said Stuart.
The following classes will be covering other types of defense techniques used in more extreme cases where the victim is either being pinned down or on in choke-hold. MOWES will be holding monthly community gatherings to address issues of safety and violence prevention.
"We believe safety is a community effort, everyone needs to make sure each person is safe” said Ho and Hsieh. The classes are open to men as well in order to address violence against both genders and provide education for techniques to avoid such situations.

How to Handle an Ex Who Harasses You
Differentiate between criminal harassment and pestering. Assault, abuse, threats, and even stalking are considered punishable criminal offenses. If you are being subjected to one of these forms of harassment, report your ex to the authorities immediately. They will keep an eye on your ex and even issue a restraining order. On the other hand, your ex may not be doing any physical or emotional harm, but simply hasn’t accepted the break-up. If the latter is the case, there are steps you can take to make it more comfortable while they come to terms with the separation.
A restraining order places restrictions on their interactions with you. If they violate the restraining order, they could be arrested.
Many states have a legal distinction between civil harassment and domestic abuse. Domestic abuse is between close family members and people currently or formerly in a romantic relationship. Civil harassment is between 2 people who are not and have never been close family members or romantically involved. However, the illegal behavior is the same – assault, abuse, threats, stalking, and other physically and emotionally harmful behaviors.
Keep track of your ex’s behavior. If the harassment gets worse, you might change your mind to see the authorities. They will need to know some details about your ex’s exact behaviors. Keeping track of them, even writing them down, is a good idea in case you feel their attempts at contacting you may turn violent.
Who, what, when, where, and why – these are basic details any authority figure will ask about up front.
How often is it happening?
Are you alone when they harass you?
Have you told them that their advances are unwelcome?
Is there hard evidence of their harassment? It may not be necessary to have criminal charges brought against them without physical evidence of harassment, but it would make it an open-and-shut case
Avoid them. If they are behaving generally rational, your ex’s advances are fueled by contact with you. Don’t give fuel to the fire. Try to avoid them whenever possible. This may be difficult if you work together or socialize in the same circles. Nonetheless, the more you can break off contact with them, the easier it should be to gradually come to terms with the break up.
Take note if your ex intensifies their attempts see you after you break off contact. This irrational behavior may be a sign of criminal harassment or even psychosis. If they become more desperate or abusive, contact the police immediately.

Signs you'll never be rich
Tanza Loudenback businessinsider.com
You only work hard, not smart.
In school, we learn that hard work will get us ahead in life. But "that's only half the story," says Ric Edelman, a top financial adviser.
"If all you do in life is work really hard, you're never going to get wealthy," he said. "Because it's not enough that you work hard to make money to set some of it aside."
Edelman says that to ensure future wealth, you must equally work smart. One way he suggests working smart is investing your money in the stock market or a retirement fund — that is, taking advantage of compound interest so that your money earns money.
You buy things you can't afford.
If you live above your means, you won't get rich.
Even if you start earning more or get a hefty raise, don't use that as justification to give yourself a lifestyle raise.
"I didn't buy my first luxury watch or car until my businesses and investments were producing multiple secure flows of income," Grant Cardone, a self-made millionaire, wrote for Entrepreneur. "I was still driving a Toyota Camry when I had become a millionaire. Be known for your work ethic, not the trinkets that you buy."
You're content with a steady paycheck.
Average people choose to get paid based on time — on a salary or hourly rate — while rich people choose to get paid based on results and are typically self-employed.
"It's not that there aren't world-class performers who punch a time clock for a paycheck, but for most, this is the slowest path to prosperity promoted as the safest," Siebold said. "The great ones know self-employment is the fastest road to wealth."
You haven't started investing.
One of the most effective ways to earn more money over time is investing it, and the earlier you start, the better.
"On average, millionaires invest 20% of their household income each year," Ramit Sethi wrote in his New York Times best-seller, "I Will Teach You to Be Rich." "Their wealth isn't measured by the amount they make each year, but by how they've saved and invested over time."
You don't have to be an expert on personal finance or use fancy economic jargon to start investing. You don't have to come from an affluent family, and you don't even have to earn a massive paycheck.

台灣人 超有錢!
Taiwan ranked 15th globally in number of ultra-rich individuals
Taiwan News
Taiwan was ranked 15th in a report on ultra-rich people by country in 2017, with the number up 26 percent from the previous year, according to property market consulting firm REPro Knight Frank.
In its latest wealth report, the number of individuals with US$50 million or more in net assets, defined as ultra-high net worth individuals (UHNWIs), in Taiwan was 2,010 in 2017, up 420 or 26 percent from a year earlier, REPro Knight Frank said.
Taiwan's growth rate in super rich individuals was the third highest in the world, trailing only Brazil's 28 percent and Russia's 27 percent, REPro Knight Frank added.
Taiwan also ranked sixth in the number of ultra-rich people in Asia after Japan (9,960), China (8,800), Hong Kong (5,140), India (2,920) and South Korea (2,610), the consulting firm said.
Huang Shu-wei, a market research executive at REPro Knight Frank, said the growth in ultra-rich people in Taiwan partly reflects a booming equity market with the weighted index on the local main board ending above the 10,000 point mark in May 2017 for the first time in over two decades. Such strength in equity price gains continued for the rest of the year and even into 2018.
In addition, Huang said listed companies in Taiwan were doling out large cash dividends to shareholders and the major market players were the largest beneficiaries and becoming even richer.
Worldwide, the number of ultra-rich individuals totaled about 129,700 in 2017, up 10 percent from a year earlier, the highest growth for five years with the global economy on the path to recovery, REPro Knight Frank said.
The United States had the most ultra rich people with 38,500 in 2017, ahead of Japan, China, Germany (8,087), Canada (5,500), France (5,240), Hong Kong, the United Kingdom (4,580), Switzerland (3,710) and Italy (3,150), REPro Knight Frank added.
India took 11th position, followed by Russia (2,620), South Korea and Brazil (2,390), according to REPro Knight Frank. (By Wei Shu and Frances Huang)

Loneliness could kill you theconversation.com
Gillian Leithman
I am an expert on aging and retirement and I also help employees transition from work to retirement by facilitating seminars and workshops in corporate Canada. And I often wonder however if our “go at it alone” attitude has led us down a lonely and isolating path.
Here are some recent stats:
40 per cent of Americans don’t feel close to others at any given time. And the number of lonely Americans has doubled since the 1980s.
In a recent Canadian Association of Retired People poll, 16 per cent of Canadians indicated that they lacked companionship
Fifteen per cent in the CARP poll said they had nobody to turn to or talk to
Fifteen per cent were unhappy doing things alone.
I suspect that these numbers are even higher among the general Canadian population, not just CARP members.
According to science, loneliness shortens our lifespan. Twice as much as obesity. Yes, you read that right.
Dr. John Cacioppo, the world’s foremost authority on loneliness, maintains that the number of people in your life does not inoculate you from experiencing loneliness. Rather, it’s the feeling of being lonely that places the brain and body at risk.
Cacioppo equates feeling lonely with feeling hungry. We compromise our survival and well-being when either is ignored.
We are biologically hardwired to respond to our environment. When we experience low blood-sugar levels, we crave food. The feeling of our stomachs being empty is a warning sign to eat and it’s essential to our very survival.
When we feel lonely, we desire connection with others, much like the loud rumble that your tummy makes when hungry.
A lonely brain is restless
Loneliness triggers “hyper-vigilance.” That is your brain is on the lookout for social threats, which consequently puts us on the defensive. We become more reactive to negative events and perceive daily hassles as more stressful.
A lonely brain awakens often, experiences fragmented sleep and cannot recover from the day’s stressful events.
A lonely brain is also subject to an increase in depressive symptoms and has difficulty self-regulating. That is why you may find yourself irritable and impulsive.
