The Simplest Way to Be Popular wikihow
Be confident.
Nobody's perfect. Therefore, you don't have to be perfect to be popular. Even if you feel that you're far from ideal, the first step to gaining confidence is to believe in yourself.
Don't hide in the corner. Get up and bask in the spotlight, if the moment is right. If you spend all of your time worrying about how you look or what other people think of you, you won't get very far. Instead, work on loving who you are and what you do. If you love yourself, everyone will want to join in.
Find your own style.
To get noticed, you don't have to dye your hair pink or get a tattoo on your face. What you should do, however, is find your own look and style and let people see that you're comfortable being yourself.
Whatever you wear, have confidence in it. Don't check yourself out in the mirror or ask everyone in your path if you look okay, or people will know that you doubt yourself.
It's great to pay attention to your looks, but looking like you're trying too hard to be popular is worse than looking like you don't care. So, if you're not really into makeup, don't slather your face with it. If you don't like popping your collar, don't do it just because that's what everyone else is doing.
Take risks.
Take risks by introducing yourself to someone you haven't met, going to a party you were invited to (even if you don't know many other guests), or by making statements that make you stand out in a crowd.
If you get used to taking risks (without putting yourself in danger, of course) you will definitely get noticed more.
Be friendly.
Popular people are on friendly terms with pretty much everyone—not only their peers, but also the teachers, the supervisors, the grocery store clerk, the janitor, the parents, the kids, and generally anyone who's even the tiniest bit nice. They're on good enough terms that they can hold a short, friendly conversation with anyone in the room. There's no reason you can't do that, too. Being friendly doesn't take a big effort, but it makes a real impact.
Keep it casual. Small talk is all about sticking to "safe" topics. Stay away from anything controversial, like religion or politics. By expressing your views on a controversial topic, you're bound to be unpopular with people who disagree. Keep the topics "light".

Friendship and colleagues: Can work friends become real friends? thejournal.ie
As we get older, we spend more time with work colleagues and less with even our closest friends outside work. Due to shared experiences and proximity, meaningful workplace relationships are often formed. But, is it a good idea to have close friendships with potential rivals for promotion?
The answer to this is both ‘yes’ and ’no’, so say the experts.
Research from various sources including Gallup, suggests that workplace friendships are positive and provide ‘support and sociability’. Furthermore, a friendly workplace has been linked with a more productive workplace.
Blurred boundaries?
However there are some downsides, such as blurred boundaries between the work role and the friendship role.
Annette Clancy is an Assistant Professor of Management at UCD College of Business. She told TheJournal.ie that some workplaces are ideal for meeting friends and in many businesses it is encouraged.
You already have similar interests, there are lots of opportunities for ‘small talk’, there’s a built-in social factor and let’s face it, it’s inevitable that you will form friendships when you are with people for eight hours a day.
“In addition, many organisations consciously promote workplace friendships by investing resources in organised ‘fun’ at work.”
There are negative outcomes to making friends in the office though. Clancy says blurred boundaries can result in some prioritising friendships in the workplace over the work itself.
“Friendships can cause distractions, anxieties and diminished work performance – particularly if an intimate relationship comes to an end.
What if a friend gets promoted ahead of you?
“Another major factor here is when one person is promoted ahead of his or her friend and this changes the power dynamic between people. Our friends expect us to show favouritism and special treatment and a promotion challenges this unspoken dynamnic.”
Psychologist Niamh Fitzpatrick told theJournal.ie the main thing to consider when forming personal relationships at work is that you are an employee first and a friend second.
“You do need to pay your rent, you do need to pay your mortgage and so when it comes to work be professional first. Make sure that whatever is going on with a friendship in the office, that your most important priority when it comes to work is that you’re doing your job.”
Research from Lancaster University in Britain found that even in situations where people have very little in common, coping with a high-stress workplace can lead to colleagues becoming best friends.

Reason Why You Should Never Judge Other People linkedin.com
1. Incomplete information
Before judging someone, make sure that you know all the facts about this person. Maybe you don´t know the whole story, you don’t know their problems and worries. It is very important to hold off until you know all facts. Instead of judging, try to help them or leave them alone. It’s one of the most obvious reasons why we shouldn’t judge other people.
2. We are all different
If you don’t like doing something, it doesn’t mean that other people should not do it too. For example, if you don’t like tattoos, you shouldn’t tell other person that their tattoos look horrible. If someone can’t get a diploma, it doesn’t mean that they don’t want to study, they just can’t pay for their education. We are all different and we all have different life problems. Instead of judging someone today, try to improve your own life.
3. No one is perfect
Perfectionists tend to judge every person they meet in their lives. They don’t admit their own mistakes but love to point out someone else’s flaws. It’s crucial to understand that no one is perfect and we all make mistakes every now and then. Before criticizing someone’s actions, make sure those actions are really bad. Maybe they have some reasons to do what they want to do.
4. Do unto others as you would have them do unto you
Before judging someone, put yourself in their shoes. We often unfairly judge others, but hate it when people judge us. Remember the famous line, “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you”? There is true wisdom in it. Your words and actions can ruin any relationship in a matter of a few minutes, but you will never earn someone’s trust back and build a strong relationship in a matter of a few minutes. Think about it before judging others.
5. Tolerance
Tolerance is essential in a modern world. Nowadays people do so many crazy things that it’s hard to keep silent when needed. Cultivate tolerance on a daily basis and it will help you understand people better and judge less. If you can’t understand someone, then don’t dwell on them. Focus on your own problems instead.
6. Appearances are often deceptive
Don’t judge people by their appearance and never make fun of others. Maybe they can’t buy expensive clothes and lead a luxury lifestyle, but they may do many good deeds that other people don’t even think about. As I mentioned before, we are all different. Some people can’t afford to buy essential foods, while others spend a fortune on the things they don’t need. Rich people tend to judge poor people, but they don’t know the whole story and they don’t know how poor people help others without expecting anything in return.

How to Be Successful in Life wiki
Identify your passions.
Before you can achieve success, you will have to define what success means to you. While it may take years to realize what you want to do with your life, identifying your passions, interests, and values will help you set goals and give your life a sense of meaning. If you have trouble identifying these things, then ask a friend or family member to help you.
Make a list of your goals, and what you might do to achieve them.
Be sure to address both short-term and long-term goals; try to think beyond financial and career goals, such as relationship goals, personal goals for bettering yourself, things you would like to experience, or things you want to learn. Draw up a timeline that says when you want to achieve each part.
Manage your finances.
Learning how to manage your money will help ensure your financial stability over time, regardless of your income.
Keep track of your expenses. Subtract your monthly expenses from your monthly income to determine how much spending money you have available each month. Also, review your bank statements often and notice where you spend your money. This will help you prevent over-spending and ensure that your bank statements are correct.
Understand your income. When calculating your income, be sure to take into account the federal, state, and social security taxes that will be deducted from your gross pay. Don't overlook miscellaneous deductions, such as health insurance premiums, savings bonds and loan payments. The resulting number is your net pay, which is what you end up taking home with you.
Cut back. If you are not earning enough money to cover your net expenses, then look into your expenses to see where you might be able to cut back.
Save money. Every month, you should deposit some of your money into a savings account. Consider asking your employer to directly deposit a portion of your income into your savings account.
Invest cautiously. If your workplace offers a retirement savings plan, put your excess incomes in that.
Manage your time.
Putting off important tasks until the last minute can cause you unnecessary stress, and increase the likelihood of errors and negligence. Manage your time so that you have enough time to complete tasks effectively.
Use a planner to help keep you organized throughout the day, week, and month.
Set reminders on your smart phone and make use of its electronic timer for better time management.
Make a list of all the things you need to do in a given day, and check off each task as you complete it. This will help you stay organized and motivated.

How to Find a Mentor wiki
A mentor is usually a voluntary counselor or teacher who guides you in work, school, or other areas of your life. Sometimes mentorship is a formal organized relationship between a professional and a novice, and sometimes it's more informal, like a friendship with a role model. While the exact mentoring relationship will be up to you, this article is designed to help you find potential mentors, and define that relationship for yourself.
Consider an academic mentor. This type of mentoring usually consists of face-to-face sessions with someone who excels in the subject matter you're studying, has the time to offer you a mentorship, and an interest in your academic achievement. Consider:
Professors, instructors, and other faculty
Older or more experienced students
Siblings or other family members
Consider sports and recreational mentoring. Think about mentors who excel at the sport you're interested in developing. While athletic ability is an important part of a sporting mentor, also consider the human side of the relationship when considering an athletic mentor. A good soccer mentor will be a good sport, an intelligent athlete, and an all-around person as well as being a phenomenal soccer player. Consider:
Coaches and assistants
Experienced players on your team or other teams
Professional athletes or retired athletes
Trainers
Consider a business mentor. Business and other professional mentors are usually successful workers in the field you hope to crack into, who will be able to offer you some tricks of the trade. This could be anything from stock trading to blues guitar. Think about who does what you want to do better than you do it. Consider:
Colleagues and business acquaintances
An old boss, though not a current supervisor
Workers with a great reputation
Consider a personal mentor. Develop a relationship with someone you admire personally, not because of what they do, but who they are and how they do it. Think of people who you'd like to be like, for no particularly reason. A personal mentor might be:
A neighbor
Your favorite bartender or barista
Your personal style icon
Someone you go to church with
Your record store guy or girl
A member of a social club you're a part of

How to Avoid Cancer wiki
There are various forms of cancer that exist, but all are serious and can kill. Many can be treated, but at present, some still have no cure. Most cases of cancer develop over the course of decades, and can be attributed to various factors in a person's life, like their diet, their genetics, and their environment.[1] This article will teach you some simple lifestyle choices you can make to dramatically reduce your risk for developing certain cancers.
Define a carcinogen. A carcinogen is any substance that has been linked with the onset of cancer in both human and animal subjects. Carcinogens do not always cause cancer, and some carcinogens are more harmful than others.
Cut down on smoked or pickled foods. Studies have shown that foods like smoked salmon and pickles contain trace levels of carcinogens.
Cut out high-fat animal proteins. Opt for poultry or fish over beef and pork, and switch to low-fat yogurts and cheeses. When cooking, using olive oil or vegetable oil rather than butter.
Reduce your intake of alcohol. When alcohol breaks down in the body, it releases a chemical that can cause DNA damage, which could eventually lead to the onset of various cancers.
Avoid excess sugar. Cancer cells feed off of glucose, which helps tumors to grow and spread more quickly throughout the body. Beware of hidden sugars in bread, salad dressings, and cooking sauces.
Stay away from artificial sweeteners. Ironically, both natural and synthetic sweeteners may be cancerous. Artificial sweeteners were linked with the onset of bladder cancer in animal subjects.
Reduce your intake of acrylamide. This carcinogenic substance appears naturally in certain foods when cooked at a high temperature. Foods that are high in amino acids and/or carbohydrates are prone to developing acrylamide when fried, baked, or roasted.

How Positive Emotions Help Us kidshealth
Positive emotions balance out negative ones, but they have other powerful benefits, too.
Instead of narrowing our focus like negative emotions do, positive emotions affect our brains in ways that increase our awareness, attention, and memory. They help us take in more information, hold several ideas in mind at once, and understand how different ideas relate to each other.
When positive emotions open us up to new possibilities, we are more able to learn and build on our skills. That leads to doing better on tasks and tests.
People who have plenty of positive emotions in their everyday lives tend to be happier, healthier, learn better, and get along well with others.
The Importance of Positive Emotions
Science is helping us find out how valuable positive emotions can be. Experts have learned a lot from recent brain studies. Here are two findings that can help us use positive emotions to our advantage:
1. Let Positive Emotions Outnumber Negative Ones
When we feel more positive emotions than negative ones, difficult situations are easier to handle. Positive emotions build our resilience (the emotional resources needed for coping). They broaden our awareness, letting us see more options for problem solving.
Studies show that people feel and do their best when they have at least three times as many positive emotions as negative emotions. That's because of something called the negativity bias.
The negativity bias is a natural human tendency to pay more attention to negative emotions than to positive ones. It makes sense when you think about it: Negative emotions call our attention to problems - problems we might need to deal with quickly. Tuning in to negative emotions can be a survival mechanism.
The negativity bias has a downside, though: It can make us think a day went badly, not well, even if we experienced equal amounts of positive and emotions that day. It takes at least three times as many positive emotions to tip the scales and make a day seem like a great one.
2. Practice Positivity Every Day
Building habits that encourage us to feel more positive emotions can help us be happier, do better, and reduce our negative emotions. Building positive emotions is especially important if we're already dealing with a lot of negative feelings such as fear, sadness, anger, frustration, or stress.

Lower Income Could Affect Memory and the Brain for the Worse
Olga Khazan theatlantic.com
This relationship held even after the authors controlled for things like mental and physical health, cognitive ability, and even their socioeconomic status in childhood, rather than adulthood. That is, growing up rich or poor didn’t necessarily affect the brain health of the middle-aged people. But it seems something about their lives in adulthood did.
What could those things be? People who had lower-paying jobs might have had worse access to health care and healthy food. They might live in more polluted neighborhoods or have lives that are less intellectually stimulating. The stress of being low on the socioeconomic totem pole raises levels of allostatic load—a measure of stress hormones that cause wear and tear on the body, including the brain.
“We’re starting to learn more about the impact of both stress and continuous learning on the brain,” says Gagan Wig, a neuroscientist at UTD and the principal investigator of the study. “It’s consistent with the idea that lifelong experiences might influence brain health.”
Past studies have also suggested that being low in socioeconomic status can affect the way we think. A paper in Science in 2013 found that “a person’s cognitive function is diminished by the constant and all-consuming effort of coping with the immediate effects of having little money, such as scrounging to pay bills and cut costs.” The cognitive cost of poverty, that study found, was practically like losing an entire night of sleep. Another study from last year found that people who had lived in poverty performed worse than those who had never been poor on tests of verbal memory, processing speed, and executive functioning.
“I think this [PNAS paper] builds on the past work on cognitive function and poverty,” says Jiaying Zhao, a psychologist at the University of British Columbia and a co-author of the 2013 study. “This shows how chronic poverty can influence brain anatomy. This paper provides the neural evidence.”
In the PNAS study, the relationship between socioeconomic status and the brain measures didn’t hold up for the very youngest adults (those aged 20 to 34) or the very oldest adults (those over 64) in the sample. It could be that only the healthiest people among the low-socioeconomic-status groups survived to old age, or that by the time people reach their 70s and 80s, social and economic determinants are less important to their brain health than is the biological aging process. Also, this study included very few people below the poverty line, which is the condition the earlier papers were largely studying.

Miss Korea 2018 Closed Her Instagram After Receiving Tons Of Hate Messages
koreaboo.com
A 23-year-old Miss Gyeonggi winner Soo Min Kim was throned the 62nd Miss Korea in the 2018 Miss Korea Contest. She will be taking home the winning prize of $90K, half of which is a scholarship.
“Thank you for the honorable prize. I will continue to work hard.” — Soo Min Kim
As soon as she won, her name trended on Korean search engines and her social media platform saw a spike in visitors. As the face to represent Korea, Soo Min Kim received a lot of attention — including hatred and criticism.
Soo Min Kim had shut down her Instagram account to private, in an attempt to deal with the malicious comments in the comments section.
A day since, the account has been set back to public, with “2018 MISS KOREA added to her profile. Most of the malicious comments have been deleted.
Some Korean netizens stirred up a heated debate over whether she “deserved” to win Miss Korea.
“Honestly, my own sister is prettier than she is.”
“She’s Miss Korea…? She looks like my next door neighbor.”
“She had some interesting aspects… but not Miss Korea worthy.”
“She is so average though… How is she Miss Korea?”
“LMAO What is this nonsense! She looks 30 years old.”
Others even began to question the nature of the beauty pageant itself.
“Why are we still evaluating women by their looks and bodies? When is this ‘contest’ going to shut down?”
“Miss Korea has long turned into a beauty pageant to pick who has had the most plastic surgery done. How meaningless!”
“An Instagram ‘influencer’ was one of the judges. So much to the legitimacy of this contest. Miss Korea is dead.”
Soo Min Kim claimed she wants to become an international reporter. Koreans wonder, however, if she will continue to pursue that dream as previous Miss Koreas like Honey Lee, Kim Sa Rang, and Kim Sung Ryung have picked up acting and turned into successful celebrities.

Tips on How to Handle a Loud Person in the Office
toughnickel
Having loud co-workers in the workplace can be a monster to tackle. Customers come and go, but you could be stuck with your co-workers for years. The tips below should help you handle a loud person in the office.
Ignore them. This should be the first step in the process. Unless it is a work related issue, just ignore them. If you don't speak to them or engage them in conversation, they may get the hint. Eventually they will get tired of having a one sided conversation and stop talking altogether.
Talk to the entire office about it. Have a group meeting where everyone agrees to keep their voices at a subdued volume as it won't distract others, yet will still allow conversations to happen. This addresses the issue without singling one person out.
Ask the co-worker if you are doing anything that is bothering them. This could be the easiest way to broach the subject. If they state something that you do that bothers them, you could do the same in return. Just don't get offended if they are honest with you.
Tell your co-worker directly how loud they are. Either try to slip in some jokes about it, make a comment about it, or directly confront the employee about how loud they are. Any way you do it, it will offend the person eventually. No one likes being told something about them that isn't liked, so it'll create some tension at first.
Turn up the music. If your workplace allows it, play some music to drown out the loud talker. If they start talking loud, turn the music up. This is a good way to get the point across that they are too loud and need to tone it down a bit.
Distract yourself. Find ways to reduce the stress caused by your loud co-worker. Step out of the office for minute, eat your favorite snack, or fidget with something. Finding a way to reduce the stress of the situation may make it easier to handle in the long term.
Tell your boss. If a co-worker is distracting you with how loud they are, you can go to your supervisor and advise them of the problem. The difficulty in this is that it can be hard to tell someone to be quiet. Being loud could be part of a person's personality. You can't fix or change a person's personality. Unless the employee is being purposely loud, difficult, or otherwise rude, there may not be much your boss can do for you that you haven't already tried yourself.
Very Direct Ways on Dealing with a Loud Person in the Office
Tone and Attitude Are Important
Always maintain a positive tone and attitude when dealing with your customers, regardless of how loud and obnoxious they may get.
