be (stuck) in a rut一成不變/枯燥乏味

to do the same things all the time so that you become bored, or to be in a situation where it is impossible to make progress
 



For example:

1. The relationship between the couple was stuck in a rut.

那對夫婦在一起已經没意思了(覺得枯燥乏味)

2.I am stuck in a rut - I always have a lunch box for lunch!

我覺得枯燥乏味,我總是一成不變地吃便當午餐.

3. After ten years of doing the same job, she feels she is in a rut.

做了十年同樣的工作, 她覺得枯燥乏味.

---if something happens out of the blue, it happens suddenly and you are not expecting it


 

Examples:

Their arrival is out of the blue.

他們的到來出人意料!

The news of her death was a great shock to me; it came absolutely out of the blue.

她死亡的消息,對我是一個很大的打擊, 簡直太突如其來了.

The prime mister’s sudden resignation came completely out of the blue.

首相突然辭職實在是令人料想不到.
