Can you choose your sexuality? Cynthia Nixon and her partner Christine Mariononi.
Is sexual orientation written in our genes? Or is it something that can change over time, whether by whim, circumstance or sheer force of will?
It’s a difficult question to ask, let alone to answer, flying in the face of everything we think we know about sexuality, from the influence of prenatal hormones to Lady Gaga’s self-love anthem ‘Born This Way’. Former Sex & The City actress Cynthia Nixon discovered just how controversial it was, when in a January interview with the New York Times Magazine, she placed her own evolution from long-term straight woman to happily engaged gay woman firmly on the “choice” end of the spectrum.
“I gave a speech recently, an empowerment speech to a gay audience, and it included the line, ‘I’ve been straight and I’ve been gay, and gay is better,’” Nixon recalled. “They tried to get me to change it, because they said it implied that homosexuality can be a choice.”
But for her, she said, it was a choice. “I understand that for many it’s not, but for me it’s a choice, and you don’t get to define my gayness for me.”
The backlash was immediate. Nixon was able to “choose” whether she wanted to date men or women for one simple reason – she was bisexual, argued blogger and gay activist John Aravosis. “So please don’t tell people that you are gay, and that gay people can ‘choose’ their sexual orientation, i.e., will it out of nowhere,” he wrote. “Because they can’t.”
Aravosis is right. You only need to look at the testimonies on the Born This Way blog, in which gay adults post childhood pictures and stories reflecting on their LGBTQ beginnings, or listen to a gay teenager talk about their attempts to bargain with themselves over their desires (“if I think of a boy three times, then I will let myself think of a girl”), to know that for many people, their sexuality is not a choice. One of the reasons the “born this way” narrative is so powerful is because it resonates.

How to Find a Talent wikihow
Stop waiting for talents to appear. You can’t know if you’ve got a talent for guitar if you never try to play guitar. Ditto didgeridoo, knitting, badminton, and Tuvan throat singing. Find a talent that seems cool and learn everything you can about it. Find out what it takes and see what you've got. if you never try, you'll never know. You’re not going to find a talent without trying. You can only find your natural abilities, skills, and talents when you test your mettle and actively seek new experiences. Face down obstacles and seek out challenges to see what innate skills and abilities you might be hiding.
Make it your goal to try something new every week. You might not discover something that you're super-talented at, but maybe you pick up a guitar one day and find out it feels comfortable in your hands and decide to learn more. Maybe you discover an ability to connect with animals at the shelter, something you'd never experienced before. Maybe you learn you're an ace at the Star Trek: The Next Generation pinball machine at the laundromat. That's the start of talent.
Get outside and scrape your knees. Go on adventures and experience the world in its natural habitat. Try out different sports, outdoor hobbies like fishing, hiking, and climbing to see if you've got an untapped natural ability or an instinct for it.
Pay attention to what other people might have noted about you. It’s common that others might have a keener sense of what you're good at than you will yourself. Ask your family, your friends, and your teachers to help you figure out what you make look easy.
Follow your obsessions. What are other people tired of hearing you talk about? What do you have to drag yourself away from? Use the things you're obsessed with to discover abilities and talents that might be hiding under the surface.
Even if you’re obsessed with something that’s hard to connect to a talent, like watching television or movies, give yourself some credit. Maybe you have a talent for telling stories, or analyzing narratives. Maybe you have a talent for appreciating camera angles. Every film critic gets a start in the exact same way. Channel that obsession into learning about film history and learning how movies are made.
Ignore the television. Shows like “America’s Got Talent” have very narrow definitions of what it means to be talented. If you’re not an attractive young person with a manufactured sob story and a loud, showy singing voice, these shows all lead people to believe they’re untalented. It’s not true. Being talented doesn’t mean being famous, being attractive, or being some kind of performer. It means dedication, creative thinking, and attention to detail. It means you have an insatiable curiosity to develop some innate abilities into skills. You've just got to find them.
Q:
How to find your talents?
What are you good at?
How to try something new every week?
How to form good hobbies?
What do you think TV talent shows?
How to cultivate new abilities and skills?

Naked roller coaster riders attempted a world record and failed, but raised €14k for charity
But dozens of thrill seekers braved the cold weather to strip off and take part in a naked roller coaster ride to raise thousands of pounds for charity.
The Guinness World Record was set in 2010 when 102 people rode the Green Scream at Adventure Island in Southend without any clothes. Naked roller coaster record(Nick Ansell/PA)
Five years on, 57 people celebrated the world record by riding the attraction in the buff, raising more than €13,000 for Southend Hospital Charitable Foundation’s Keyhole Cancer Appeal.
They travelled from all over the UK, including Edinburgh, Newcastle and Swindon, to take part in the challenge. Naked roller coaster record(Nick Ansell/PA)
“It’s been an absolutely superb day with people all enjoying the chance to do something memorable, good fun and raise a large amount of money for a fantastic, local charity,” said Adventure Island operations director Andrew Renton.
“We’ve heard some amazing stories from so many who have been directly, or indirectly, affected by cancer and wanted to give something back. Naked roller coaster record(Nick Ansell/PA)
“I am really proud Adventure Island could offer them this opportunity. Admittedly it would have been nice to have bettered our record – but we are still the World Record holders at the end of the day.”
Lucy Thomas-Clayton, from Southend Hospital Charitable Foundation, said: “It takes a lot of nerve to take off all your clothes in front of complete strangers, plus the world’s media – so we would like to say a massive thank you to everyone who was brave enough to bare all and raise such a huge amount of cash for our vitally important cause.”

Why We Love Bad News More Than Good News psychologytoday
Most news we see and hear is negative, and replete with disasters, terrorism, crime, scandals and corruption. Does the media create that negative news bias or does it respond to our preference for bad news over good news?
A recent study by the Pew Research Center for People (link is external) & the Press synthesizes 165 separate national surveys and finds that American news preferences have remained “surprisingly static” over the last twenty years. Study author Michael J. Robinson reports, not surprisingly, war and terrorism have consistently ranked at the top of the stack since 1986, where the study begins. So have bad weather, and natural or manmade disaster stories, although the latter stand out for having witnessed a precipitous drop in public interest, one of the rare instances of significant change. In contrast, money news is the only category that has grown notably more popular with time. Crime, health, and politics have consistently ranked as mid-level interest categories. Science and technology, foreign news that is not directly related to the U.S., and tabloid and entertainment news have consistently ranked lowest in the public eye.
Robinson found “Polarizing social issues involving family, sexuality, patriotism and God engender the highest levels of attention,” and Crime, health, and politics ranks lowest among all news preferences. Writing for The Nation, Eric Alterman argues (link is external) that the lack of interest in this subject is the study’s “most shocking” conclusion. The finding is especially surprising given the “major changes in the news ‘menu,’” that Robison describes, where “substantial coverage” devoted to stories such as Paris Hilton’s incarceration and Anna Nicole Smith’s death.
Yet what is truly fascinating is the explanation for this contradiction between interest and coverage: “Even the smallest shifts in ratings can cause news organizations to alter substantially their news focus,” Robinson writes, and often toward “a lower common denominator.” But these alterations, marked by “saturation” coverage, are often temporary and aimed at capturing the niche rather than the national audience. This harkens back to the earlier, chicken-and-egg discussion of where interest lags behind coverage, and where it exceeds coverage. “That the national news audience does not shift its news diet nearly so quickly as news organizations shift their news menu” is one of the most important take-away messages for journalists in Robinson’s study.

'Back to the Future' Day: Time is in flux, and the 'Future' is today By Todd Leopold, CNN
(CNN)—"Back to the Future" Day has finally arrived.
In "Back to the Future Part II," Marty McFly travels to October 21, 2015, to save his children, yet to be born in "Back to the Future's" 1985.
What did 'Back to the Future II' get right?
The plot gets tangled -- by fixing one thing, McFly and Doc Brown (and the villainous Biff Tannen) create a number of new messes -- but what remains is the film's vision of a year that was still more than a quarter-century away when the movie was shot and released in 1989. The entire trilogy is even being rereleased Wednesday, so you can see for yourself.
The film's record isn't bad, given that director Robert Zemeckis wasn't pleased with setting part of "Back to the Future II" in 2015.
"I always hated -- and I still don't like -- movies about the future," he says in a new book, "Back to the Future: The Ultimate Visual History." "I just think they're impossible, and somebody's always keeping score."
If you were given one opportunity to time travel, would you go back and change something in your past or would you go and explore your future? Why?
1. If I had one oppurtunity to either go back in time or go into the future I would go back in time. It is funny how man cqn follow his downfall to one past indiscretion. I would merely fix my one mistake and move on from there.
2. If I go back in time, not only would i be correcting my mistake, but also the lesson learnt through it.
If I go into the future and learn about it, I would become someone who would not dare to dream anything bigger than what I had seen.
Q:
What do you think that "Back to the Future" Day has finally arrived”?
In your opinion, Could it be possible that "Back to the Future”? (or Back to the past)
What are your opinion that there were some new invention in the film?

Why prosocial spending promotes happiness? positivepsychologyprogram
Why is it that spending our money on others—prosocial spending—makes us happier?
It’s partly because giving to others makes us feel good about ourselves, just like showing our gratefulness does, as explained in the effects of gratitude. It helps promote a view of ourselves as responsible and giving people, which in turn makes us feel happy. It’s also partly because spending money on others helps cement our social relationships. And people with stronger social ties are generally happier.
So if prosocial spending makes us feel good, how come we tend to think personal spending will make us happier? It’s because of the insidious effect money has on the mind. Studies have shown that the simplest reminder of money has all kinds of negative effects (from Vohs et al., 2006). It makes us:
Less likely to help others.
Less likely to donate to charity.
Less likely to spend time with others.
Three times more likely to want to work alone, despite knowing we’re taking on more work.
These are all precisely the behaviours that are likely to make us happy, yet just being reminded of money makes us less likely to engage in them. It’s not that money is always evil; under the right circumstances it can motivate us and modern societies would be difficult without it. But money clearly has some negative psychological effects. Generosity can be a very effective antidote.
Research suggests that many people think that spending money on themselves will make them happier than spending it on other people.
Q:
Why is it that spending our money on others makes us happier?
Do you feel good when giving to others or treating others?
What are the ways to help improve your social relationships?
What are the ways to help improve friendships?
Sharing experiences that spending money on others?
How to expand your social network?
How to make others happy?

How to Date Without Money? By Mira Luna
Even if you have money, spending it on your
date won’t always impress. Creativity and resourcefulness can score more points
than dropping big money on a fancy dinner that didn’t take much thought. If you
are unemployed or thrifty, that’s no reason to stay at home alone. Ask your
date what they like to do and come up with a plan that shows you listened and
you put in effort.
•Take a hike – tour murals, be a tourist
in your own city or try hiking through a safe park or beach at night during the
full moon.
•Sunset and a picnic – at local park,
overlook, beach, or on your roof.
•Cook dinner together – visit your local
farmers market, volunteer with Food Not Bombs or dumpster dive your dinner to
show your that you are resourceful. Make sure you ask about dietary
preferences.
•Date on a bike – ride a bike in Critical
Mass with your sweetie, take part in the festivities and then plan a special
stop that offers more alone time.
•Popcorn and a movie – films are available
gratis at your local library on YouTube, Ice Films and Bit Torrent. Let your
date pick the film and try it outside if the weather is nice. Many movie
theatres will give you their left over popcorn if you ask nicely.
•Bookstore treasure hunt - create a list
of things to find and share from the bookstore ahead of time, like good jokes,
recipes, a book your date might love, a self help book for your date, or a
travel book to inspire adventure together.
•Game night - invite some friends over and
let them get to know your date. Try these DIY indoor games or backyard games,
like create your own miniature golf course.
•Free museum day - explore a different
culture, weird science or art together. Ask your date’s opinion on things you
see.
•Fly a kite – make sure its a windy day so
you can show off your flying skills. Bring a back up plan, like a frisbee, book
or a game in case the wind dies down.

Angelababy
Chinese actress Angelababy endures invasive
examination to prove she hasn't had plastic surgery
Angelababy, whose real name is Yeung Wing,
arrived Thursday at the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences with something to
prove: that she had never had plastic surgery.
What ensued was a bizarre and brutally
public physical examination. Angelababy underwent a battery of tests, including
X-rays and even a plastic surgeon poking around the inside of her mouth. All
the while, pictures of the exam were posted on state television and Weibo,
China's wildly-popular Twitter-like microblogging site.
"Angelababy's cosmetic results
announced," ran headlines across the country.
The story behind Angelababy's strange exam
dates back to 2012, when Beijing beauty clinic Ruili claimed that she had
plastic surgery.
"Angelababy's plastic surgery fails,
netizens say her chin is extremely unnatural," ran the headline of an
article posted on the clinic's website, according to Shanghaiist.
The actress denied the report and sued the
clinic for 500,000 yuan, or roughly $108,350, in compensation, according to the
BBC. For three years, the case has gone back and forth in court. This May, a judge
ruled in her favour but the clinic appealed.
Finally, a Beijing judge suggested that the
dispute be settled once and for all by Angelababy having her face examined by
medical professionals "to certify its authenticity," the BBC
reported. And so it was that the 26-year-old actress arrived to a Beijing
plastic surgery clinic on Thursday - not to get work done, but rather to prove
that she had received none.
According to Chinese media, a renowned
plastic surgeon named Qi Zuoliang performed the exam in front of her lawyer,
two notaries public and a host of reporters.
"During his examination, Qi noted that
there no cut marks on her eyelids, around her eyes or around her mouth,"
Shanghaiist reported.
"Angelababy did not wear makeup and
was proactive during the examination," according to another fashion blog,
AsiaOne. "She asked the surgeon to check her forehead, nose, chin,
cheekbones and apple cheeks, and said to reporters who were present: 'Quick, help
me think where else.'"
Qi's verdict: Angelababy was naturally
angelic.
