Mid-Autumn Festival — National BBQ Day  (I Taiwan)
As the full moon wraps the Earth in its silver glow, the barbeque grills come out. Families and friends gather on rooftops, in parks, and even on sidewalks. The conversation keeps pace with the sizzling flames as the smell of grilled meat and vegetables fills the air. Eyes gaze skyward to observe the moon in its glory.

Such are the scenes in Taiwan during MidAutumn Festival, also known as Moon Festival. The festival is celebrated on the 15th day of the eighth lunar month.

Moon Festival is a time for reunions, and families and friends generally gather outdoors, where they can admire the moon in its beauty. Important activities at this time include eating mooncakes, which symbolize unity and togetherness; strolling under the full moon; and eating pomelos, since the Chinese term for this citrus sounds like the Chinese words for “care and protection.”

The festival has a long history, dating back to ancient China and several accounts of its origin have survived. In Taiwan, the most popular version is an account of Hou Yi and his wife, Chang E — although the exact details vary.

Over the past 20 years, barbeque has become an integral part of Moon Festival celebrations in Taiwan. The phenomenon traces its genesis to the 1980s when Wei Chuan Foods Corp. produced a television commercial to promote its barbeque sauce during the festival. Other businesses later joined in, promoting BBQ-related merchandise around Moon Festival. All the necessities for barbeques from the grill to the charcoal to the meat are sold at supermarkets and other grocery outlets across the country.

Charcoal Barbecuing: Bad for Your Health? By Carol Johnson

Decades ago there was only one way to grill foods outdoors: a charcoal grill. There was nothing that could equal the taste of meats and vegetables grilled outdoors over burning charcoal. Because people had been cooking over coal and wood for centuries, most people didn’t give a moment’s thought to continuing that tradition in modern civilization, using big cast iron outdoor grills and charcoal briquettes.

But no matter how delicious charcoal grilled foods can be, you should stop and think before indulging yourself, because you could be actually harming your health with every bite—and even before you start eating. Charcoal, when it is burned, produces not only hydrocarbons but also tiny particles of soot. These particles not only pollute the air, they can aggravate lung problems and heart ailments. Unfortunately, the crispiness and blackened quality of charcoaled meat that gives it that wonderful woody flavor can form two types of potentially carcinogenic compounds: heterocyclic amines (HCAs) and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs).
Questions:
1. Do you like BBQ? Why or why not?

2. What you think about barbecue activity and moon festival?

3. Why do we celebrate moon festival?

4. What are your plans for moon festival?

What's the most interesting part you would like to do in moon festival?

5. Which Taiwanese festival you like most?

6. Does grilling cause cancer? How to make grilling healthier?

7. Do you think barbecuing food cause cancer?

Can you list any other cancer-causing foods?

做惡夢嗎?

Causes Of Nightmares (dreammoods.com)

In general, stress, trauma, fears, insecurities, feelings of inadequacy, health problems, marital issues, etc may all be reasons for having nightmares:

Childhood and Family - Present nightmares can be rooted in past neglect and trauma from childhood. From lack of love, neglect, alcoholism, to severe abuse, family members can be the most destructive influence on a person's life. Nightmares may be a sign of such inner turmoil.

Life - The way your life is going and the larger society as a whole can contribute to nightmares. Your perception of the world, health, natural disasters, criticism about politics, finances, crime in the streets and your inability to control such events may sometimes lead to nightmares.

Relationships - Your intimate relationships and  your daily interactions with people can also be a source of your nightmares.  Marital difficulties or pregnancy are other possible causes. You may be paranoid about how your think others perceive you or fear that others do not understand and see who you really are. Isolation and unhappiness may appear in nightmares as abandonment and loneliness.

Stress - The way you handle and deal with stress can trigger nightmares. Nightmares are a normal response to unacceptable levels of fear and stress. People diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder frequently have nightmares about their traumatic event, like war, rape, death of a loved one, car accident, plane crash, terrorism, etc.

Work - Since most of us spend the majority of our day at work, it is no surprise that work-related issues are a common source for your nightmares. Stress, job security (or there lack of), change in jobs, co-workers, unresolved work problems, or general dissatisfaction with what you do can manifest into a nightmare. The nightmare may reflect feelings of frustration and an inability to control your work-related issues.
