Index
shows Taiwanese are moderately happy (Taipei Time)
According to the national happiness index
released by the Directorate-General of Budget, Accounting and Statistics
(DGBAS) yesterday.
The national happiness index — compiled
from a total of 24 indicators in 11 categories and based on the OECD’s Better
Life Index — stood at 6.64 points this year, the DGBAS said.
Taiwan ranks 19th among the countries
assessed in the two indexes.
“Taiwan’s level of happiness is in the
middle,” DGBAS
Minister Shih Su-mei (石素梅) told a press conference.
Australia is the OECD’s happiest nation
with an index reading of 7.95 points, followed by Sweden and Canada, the report
showed.
Among the Asian nations surveyed, Taiwan
ranked the highest, ahead of Japan and South Korea, which were rated 27th and
28th respectively.
Among the 11 categories, Taiwan was ranked
third for safety, which the DGBAS attributed to relatively few violent crimes,
the report said.
In addition, Taiwan ranked highly in the
categories related to living conditions, housing, and income and jobs, placing
ninth, fourth and 10th respectively, the report said.
However, the nation’s environment ranking
stayed at 35th, and DGBAS said that was a reflection of the impact of the large
number of motorcycles and industrial activity.
Shih said the results showed Taiwan’s
material living conditions are better than its quality of life.
Notably, the category of life satisfaction
in Taiwan was ranked 25th, the DGBAS said, mentioning the results of a Gallup
World Poll last year, when respondents in Taiwan gave themselves 6.1 points out
of 10 points when measuring their living conditions.
Questions:
1. What you think about the happiness
index?
2. In your opinion, how do you measure a
country's happiness?
What Is your own happiness index about
Taiwan?(high or low)
3. What do you think of the living
conditions inTaiwan?

4. What you think about housing price in
Taiwan?
5. What you think about income and jobs
Taiwan?
What do you think the unemployed rate
Taiwan?
6. What do you think motorcycles and

Billy
Is
Japan's Prime Minister's Mansion Actually Haunted?
(The Disaffected Lib)
Japanese prime minister Shinzo Abe won't
set foot in the place. In 2007, during a
previous term in office, Abe left the prime minister's mansion and, despite
being re-elected seven months ago, he shows no signs of wanting to go back.
Rather than move into the presidential
home, Abe has preferred to make the 15-minute commute from his family's house
to the office and has shown no indication that he is preparing to move into the
art deco mansion in the heart of Nagatacho, the capital's political district, where
he lived during his previous stint as prime minister in 2006-07.
While officials deny Abe has a fear of the
supernatural – and there was no discussion of the matter in 2007 when he
resigned from office due to ill health – rumours abound that the official
residence is haunted by figures from Japan's bloody prewar history.
In 1932, a group of naval officers
assassinated the then prime minister, Tsuyoshi Inukai, at the residence during
a failed coup. Four years later, it was the scene of another attempted coup by
a radical faction of the imperial Japanese army.
Bullet holes and traces of fire damage near
the entrance to the mansion property have left physical reminders of the coup
attempts. But there have also been frequent reported sightings of men in military
uniform in a nearby garden. Several former first ladies have refused to move
into the building over fears it was haunted.
Japan was a pretty gory place to be a
politician in the runup to WWII. Many
of the homicidal young officers, who liked to use their katana or samurai
swords on their political masters, got off with a slap on the wrist because
they were deemed to be acting misguidedly but with patriotic fervor.
Questions:
1.
Do you think this haunted house
is scary?
Are you afraid of ghosts or not?
2.
What do you do if you were the Japanese
prime minister?
3.
How to tell if a house is
haunted?
4.Want to buy a haunted house? (if the
house price lower---)
Do you want to moving into a haunted house?
5. What do you think about Japan?
What do you think about Japanese people?
What you think about samurai?
6. Do you believe in ghosts or supernatural
beings, have you had any experiences?
Apple Daily)
