Nepal earthquake death toll tops 2,400   By Paavan Mathema and Ammu Kannampilly ,AFP

Powerful aftershocks rocked Nepal on Sunday, panicking survivors of a quake that killed more than 2,400 and triggering fresh avalanches at Everest base camp, as rescuers dug through rubble in the devastated capital Kathmandu.

Terrified residents, many forced to camp out in the capital after Saturday's quake reduced buildings to rubble, were jolted by a 6.7-magnitude aftershock that compounded the worst disaster to hit the impoverished Himalayan nation in more than 80 years.

At overstretched hospitals, where medics were also treating patients in hastily erected tents, staff were forced to flee buildings for fear of further collapses.

Electricity has been cut off, communication systems are congested and hospitals are crowded and are running out of room for storing dead bodies,” Oxfam Australia chief executive Helen Szoke told AFP.

Climbers reported that the aftershock caused more avalanches at Mount Everest, just after helicopters airlifted to safety those injured when a wall of snow hit base camp on Saturday, killing at least 18 people.

The deadliest disaster in Everest's history comes almost exactly a year after an avalanche killed 16 sherpa guides, forcing the season to be cancelled, and as around 800 mountaineers were gathered at the start of the new season.

AFP's Nepal bureau chief Ammu Kannampilly, who was on assignment at base camp, reported that six helicopters had managed to reach the mountain on Sunday after the weather improved.

A stunning image captured by the agency's South Asia photo chief Roberto Schmidt showed a massive cloud of snow and debris cascading onto base camp, burying scores of climbers and flattening tents.

People being stretchered out as choppers land — half a dozen this morning,” Kannampilly said in a text message. “Weather clear, some snowfall.”

女人高IQ
Yes, women ARE brighter. That's why I'll make a prediction that is sure to enrage them

The latest research has revealed that women have a higher IQ than men. I’m not surprised, are you? When I consider the broadest meaning of the word intelligence, I should say the females of my acquaintance, ranging from the very old to the very young, were, on the whole, noticeably more intelligent.

I do not mean just clever-clogs abilities to solve puzzles or do maths, but all-round intuitive intelligence, a combination of emotional intelligence, common sense, and general knowledge. IQ testing began about a century ago, and hitherto, women have lagged some five points behind men on average. The gap between male and female has been narrowing over the years, and this year, it seems women have moved ahead.

All sorts of reasons can be found for this. IQ in general has improved since tests first began. Psychologists think that this is because modern life becomes ever more complicated.

Closing the gap: Women now have a higher average IQ than men

Brain power improves by brain use, just as our bodily strength grows with exercise. And there is no doubt that a large proportion of the female population, from school days to late middle age, now have very complicated lives indeed. Much more complicated — on the whole — than their brothers, husbands, or sons.

They are expected to compete on an equal level with boys at school and at university. They compete for the same jobs. And then, when partnerships and parenthood begin, all social surveys reveal that it is the women who bear most of the responsibility for juggling not only the need to earn money but also the cares of home and the upbringing of the children.

In most households where both parents go out to work, it is still — nearly always — the woman who buys the children’s clothes, arranges their complicated social lives, remembers that on Tuesdays Johnnie goes to Scouts, on Wednesday the dry cleaning needs collecting, and on Friday it is the husband’s mother’s birthday.

Q:
Do you think women have a higher IQ than men?
Do you think modern life becomes ever more complicated?
Do men really earn more than women?
Why men still get more promotions than women?
Are women handle stress better than men?
How men and women handle stress differently?
Can women handle problems better than men?
