Can coffee cause cancer? 'Only if it's very hot'
By Kate Kelland, Reuters

LONDON--There is no conclusive evidence that drinking coffee causes cancer, the World Health Organization's cancer agency will say as it downgrades its warning, but it will also say all "very hot" drinks are probably carcinogenic.

The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) had previously rated coffee as "possibly carcinogenic" but has changed its mind. On Wednesday it will say its latest review found "no conclusive evidence for a carcinogenic effect."

At the same time, however, it will say other scientific evidence suggests that drinking anything very hot — around 65 degrees Celsius or above — including water, coffee, tea and other beverages, probably does cause cancer of the oesophagus.

Lyon-based IARC, which last year prompted headlines worldwide by saying processed meat can cause cancer, reached its conclusions after reviewing more than 1,000 scientific studies in humans and animals. There was inadequate evidence for coffee to be classified as either carcinogenic or not carcinogenic.

It had previously put coffee as a "possible carcinogen" in its 2B category alongside chloroform, lead and many other substances.

The U.S. National Coffee Association welcomed the change in IARC's classification as "great news for coffee drinkers."

Processed meats

Unless you are a vegetarian, you probably have ham, bacon, and sausages in your refrigerator. However, you probably didn’t know that the preservatives added to these meats to make them seem fresh and appetizing are linked to cancer. For instance, sodium nitrite and sodium nitrate, which find their way into a range of cured meats, are known to significantly increase your risk of colorectal tumors.

Whenever you cook processed meats like cold cuts in oil, a chemical reaction causes sodium nitrite to bond with amines and produce N-nitroso, a known cancer-causing compound. Studies reveal that N-nitroso is associated with cancers of the brain, stomach, and intestines.

Eating one hot dog – a processed meat – each day raises your risk for colorectal cancer by 20 percent according to a study led by the American Institute of Cancer Research. A separate study by the University of Southern California and Cancer Research Center of Hawaii identified a link between consumption of processed meats and cancer. People who had greater intake of processed meats had a 68 percent higher risk for pancreatic cancer. A research in Sweden found that Swedes who consumed 3 ounces of processed meat a day were 15 percent more likely to get stomach cancer compared to those who ate less of them each day.

To reduce your risk for developing cancer, only choose meat products that are free from nitrites and nitrates. If this is not possible, you can at least limit your intake. Ideally, you should avoid processed meats altogether, as they are high in salt, which increases your risk of cancerous changes to your stomach. But those you should stay away from the most are hotdog, bacon, ham, and salami because they contain the most preservatives and additives, and thus pose the greatest risk in cancer development compared to other processed meats. A healthier alternative is to make your own cooked meats by roasting a joint of beef, lamb, or pork each week to slice for use in sandwiches and salads.

Stephen Hawking Predicts, “This Pill Will Change Humanity" - Harvard Study Shows Brain Boosting “Smart Drug” Proven To Double IQ Is The Biggest Discovery In History

In an interview with Anderson Cooper, Stephen Hawking said that his brain is sharer than ever, more clear and focused and he credits a large part to using Synapsyl Hawking went on to add “The brain is like a muscle, you got to work it out and use supplements just like body builders use, but for your brain, and that’s exactly what I’ve been doing to enhance my mental capabilities”.

Everyone that has taken this, from athletes like Tom Brady to musicians like kanye West have nothing but praise for the brain booster, which doubles IQ, skyrockets energy levels and connects areas of the brain not previously connected. Synapsyl works so well for these guys, we had to ask... Is it safe?

After 7 years Harvard Scientists Finally Break New Ground & Usher In The Future Of Brain Science With Invention Of New Smart Drug That Increases IQ, Memory And Focus Up To %100

Over a decade ago ago Harvard assembled a team of neuroscientists to work on coming up with a natural brain supplement that could effortlessly boost IQ.

Today, those scientists made the breakthrough they were seeking and made the discovery of a lifetime. They came up with a brain boosting smart drug that surpasses all limits of known science.

The Supplement they created is now THE best treatment available to improve memory, sharpen attention, increase focus and boost overall IQ.

After numerous rounds of testing results were astonishing. One test subject was quoted as saying:
“As soon as I took it started working within minutes of taking it. All of a sudden, it felt like a dark cloud had been lifted up from in front of me. I was more alert, more focused, had long lasting energy, and experienced a mental clarity that I’d never felt before” – Ben Lishger Harvard Sophomore."

Oil company must compensate for harm to consumers' health

Kaohsiung, June 15 (CNA) The Taiwan Kaohsiung District Court ruled Wednesday that Cheng I Food Co., found during an adulterated oil scandal in 2014 to have used imported oil meant for animal feed in its lard-based cooking oil products, must compensate consumers of the products.

The ruling said that Cheng I Food (正義油品) must compensate to the tune of NT$9.37 million (US$288,000) to a total of 3,123 teachers and students at 23 schools in Kaohsiung and Taichung, who had eaten school lunch meals prepared with problematic lard produced by the oil company.

The company should pay each consumer NT$2,000 in cash in compensation for mental distress, and another NT$1,000 in punitive compensation, according to the ruling.

In a statement, the court said no plaintiffs in a class-action lawsuit filed by the Consumer Protection Association of Taiwan (CPAT) have shown any symptoms of illness, sought medical treatment, or have medical treatment documentation of illness caused by eating foods prepared with cooking oil produced by Cheng I Foods.

Despite this, the court still concluded that the company violated the right to health of the plaintiffs, the statement said.

It noted that "although it is difficult to determine the relationship between Cheng I Food products and health damage to consumers, the court decided to adopt a ruling in favor of the consumers."

The court concluded that although Cheng I Foods used substandard oil because it was cheated by its supplier, it should still compensate customers for its mistake.

Kaohsiung District Court spokesman Shih Po-hung (施柏宏) said that even though Cheng I Food itself was a victim, in that it produced lard with substandard oil provided by its source supplier without ensuring that the material was safe for human consumption, it should be responsible for checking the safety of its raw materials.

The civic group devoted to consumers' rights filed the lawsuit with the district court in July 2015 on behalf of teachers and students who ate school lunches prepared by catering service companies.

The CPAT had demanded that Cheng I Food should pay each plaintiff NT$20,000 in compensation for financial loss, another NT$10,000 for mental distress, and NT$60,000 in punitive compensation.

In response, the CPAT said "the ruling is not acceptable" because it is far away from the plaintiffs' expectations. It will decide whether or not to file an appeal after receiving the ruling document, it said.

Cheng I Food made a similar comment, saying that it will evaluate whether or not to appeal after examining the document.

On Feb. 26 this year, the Kaohsiung District Court acquitted the oil company, a subsidiary of Ting Hsin Oil and Fat Industrial Co. (頂新), of criminal charges against food safety. It determined that the company had no knowledge that the oil it used to produce lard was substandard.

Ting Hsin Oil and Fat, Wei Chuan Foods Corp. (味全食品) and Cheng I Food are at the heart of a series of food safety scandals that erupted in October 2014.

Ting Hsin Oil and Fat and Cheng I Food were found to be using ingredients unfit for human consumption, such as oils used in animal feed, in the cooking oil they sold to food processors and to consumers under the Wei Chuan brand.

Mass shooting at Orlando gay nightclub

Orlando, Florida (CNN)— An American-born man who'd pledged allegiance to ISIS gunned down 49 people early Sunday at a gay nightclub in Orlando, the deadliest mass shooting in the United States and the nation's worst terror attack since 9/11, authorities said.

* The gunman, Omar Mateen, 29, of Fort Pierce, Florida, was interviewed by the FBI in 2013 and 2014 but was not found to be a threat, the FBI said.

Mateen carried an assault rifle and a pistol into the packed Pulse club about 2 a.m. Sunday and started shooting, killing 49 people and wounding at least 53, officials said.

After a standoff of about three hours, while people trapped inside the club desperately called and messaged friends and relatives, police crashed into the building with an armored vehicle and stun grenades and killed Mateen.

"It appears he was organized and well-prepared," Orlando Police Chief John Mina said early Sunday. Authorities said they haven't found any accomplices.

'An act of hate'

There has been no claim of responsibility for the attack on jihadi forums, but ISIS sympathizers have reacted by praising the attack on pro-Islamic State forums.

"We know enough to say this was an act of terror and act of hate," President Obama said in an address to the nation from the White House.

While the violence could have hit any American community, "This is an especially heartbreaking day for our friends who are lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender," he said.

Omar Mir Seddique Mateen was born in 1986 in New York. Most recently he lived in Fort Pierce, about 120 miles southeast of Orlando. Fearing explosives, police evacuated about 200 people from the apartment complex where he lived while they looked through his residence for evidence.

Mateen's parents, who are from Afghanistan, said he'd expressed outrage after seeing two men kiss in Miami, but they didn't consider him particularly religious and didn't know of any connection he had to ISIS.

He was married in 2009 to a woman originally from Uzbekistan, according to the marriage license, but he filed documents to end the marriage in 2011.

Sitora Yusufiy, interviewed by CNN in Boulder, Colorado, said she and Mateen were together about four months, though it took a long time to complete the divorce because they lived in different parts of the country after separating.

Mateen was a normal husband at the beginning of their marriage but started abusing her after a few months, she said. She said Mateen was bipolar, although he was not formally diagnosed. She also said Mateen had a history with steroids. He was religious but she said she doesn't think his religion played in to the attack.

Mateen had worked since 2007 as a security officer at G4S Secure Solutions, one of the world's largest private security companies.

A message posted in Arabic on a dark web site associated with the ISIS news agency Amaq said "the armed attack that targeted a gay night club in the city of Orlando in the American state of Florida and that bore more than a 100 killed and wounded was carried out by an Islamic state fighter."
