Thai people are grown up with superstitious beliefs and taboos. Some are still believed to be true, and some are now used to tease friends. Giving a gift is a nice gesture but some items have negative meaning especially to your relationship. Here are some people might consider bringing bad luck;
1. Shoes
If you buy shoes for your girlfriend or boyfriend, it is believed that it will cause the break up because shoes need to be in pair, a couple who are dating but not living together could be cursed to go different ways.
2. Black clothes
This item is frightening. Do not give black clothing because ancient Thai people consider black as the colour of pain and sadness used for mourning. If you give a black cloth to someone, you will go to that person’s funeral.
3. Watch / Clock
It is believed that if your loved one gives you a watch or clock, your relationship might be over like the clock stops ticking.
4. Perfume
As Thai people like to say if you don’t believe it, don’t disparage it. Many Thai think giving perfume to your partner could make your love lessen like the scent of the perfume that is fade away over time.
5. Handkerchief
Thai believe that handkerchief is used for wiping tears, so someone who receives a handkerchief as a gift will lose their tears. If you don’t want your beloved to cry, avoid giving this item.
6. Comb
Thai people compare relationship to the teeth of a comb, you don’t want to go apart like the comb’s teeth.

Chinese revere spirits during ‘ghost festival’In another ghost month ritual, miniature paper houses are torched and set adrift to light the way for ghosts who are lost at sea.
Chinese people have a unique respect for ghosts. They make peacekeeping gestures to the restless spirits and even refer to them as “good brothers.”
In Chinese culture, the seventh month of the lunar calendar is known as “ghost month.” And according to traditional belief, the living must make extra efforts to exist in harmony with the ghosts that emerge from the underworld at this time.
The gates of hell are said to open on the first day of the seventh lunar month, allowing the spirits of centuries past to wander the earth in search of bodies for incarnation. On the 15th day, Chinese celebrate a “ghost festival” to greet the visiting phantoms.
There is much more to the ghost festival in Taiwan’s cities and villages than the worship rituals. This colorful day also features parades, Chinese lion dances, wheel-and-drum folk dances and a variety of vaudeville performances to entertain ghost and citizen alike.
“People in the world of the living are afraid that the ghosts might become irritated and bring them trouble,” said Lin Mao-hsien, a folk art scholar.
According to the sponsor, lending a modern interpretation to the traditional folk festival helps society realize the importance of helping those who are in need.
The idea is that people should recognize there are living “ghosts” all around who are also in dire straits. The activities also were intended to show that the environment, as much as society’s under privileged, also requires protective care.
